Bit of extra wind today, little bit more traffic but still light overall compared to normal and I took my rotherhithe tunnel route with a diversion today. Which brings me to my highlight, taking my bike for its MOT at chasbikes this morning and arriving some 20mins early due to lack of traffic and the guy doing the test eventually just starting it early (as I was sat there waiting for him to finish it) despite saying their earliest official appointment (which I'd booked) was 9am. It passed BTW and I was in my office still before 9:30am smile
Result - not looking forward to my MOT in May.....

Traffic spookily light this morning, it was ilke 4am on a Sunday morning. Possibly a PB for me, ~40 mins door to car park without any form of banzai-ness.

Only oddness was a chap on a Hornet who kept overtaking me and then going really slowly immediately after so I had to keep re-overtaking confused Did it about 4 or 5 times.
Whereabouts in London was this my mate borrowed my hornet it could have been him!
He's used to riding his PCX!

Proper windy down here today, but didn't get blown about too much, - probably helped by the VFR's substantial mass.

On the plus side, all that wind meant the roads were dry this morning AND tonight!! eek It's been a while since I've seen an actual dry road...

I think it started on the A20 around Sidcup/New Eltham and continued until I decided I didn't want him in front of me in the Blackwall!

The bike had a topbox on with all manner of haphazardly-placed reflective tape on it. Poss an 05 plate iirc.

Well a couple of interesting commutes....

Next to the Minories car park to go over tower bridge....van decides it wants to be in the left lane, only issue is I'm already there...it moves, I horn but they just carry on regardless....knock at the window 10 yards later and you get the 100 yard stare forward.....wtf

Then the monsoon that was this morning....yuck

Monsoon, nutty drivers, etc etc.

I can almost hear my gear drippin' in the changing room.

I've taken to not even looking out the window in the morning to see what the weathers doing, just gear on and get on with it. Much much better than sitting in traffic.

I'm thinking of getting another lid with built in rechargeable bluetooth, take the edge of the motorway stint...

Worked in London over the Christmas period so not been on the bike much. Back to work on Tuesday and felt like a noob on the bike again.

Traffic was back to heavy today but yesterday there was a horrendous amount of oil contend with. It went right through into Manchester and was a little more half the width of a lane. I'm guessing they'd have to top up at each end of the journey. Didn't see it this morning though so it seemed to have been washed away.

Is it just me or is 90mph a good speed to cut through them strong winds? seem to get blown a bit more going slower.

Traffic very heavy Aspen Way to Limehouse link to Butchers Row junction heading westbound this morning but after that the highway was empty up to the lights just before the Tower Bridge crossroads/lights.
Rain just that level of size to not seem that much but actually alot coming down and visibility really poor despite my V wipe. Gortex gear soaked, I even moved back to summer gortex gloves today as there was no way I was plugging in anything heated gloves wise with the amount of water about. I carry both pairs with me and I can use the heated ones later wink
Must buy some new trousers been putting it off -- the right knee leaks a bit through the goretex liner now - July 2008 vintage Hein Gericke.. not a bad lifespan but pretty much worn out now with poppers/zips and velco all failing.

Other thing that has now come around for me is the dreaded insurance...

Had a letter & E-mail through from my current insurer, EBike Insurance.

My renewal has dropped from £830 last year to £523 this year on the same information. MCE quote £330 but are the lowest by some margin and am currently having a bad experience following an old claim....

My details are:

28 y.o
2003 CBR600f
Third Party Only
Garaged in BR3
Need commuting cover and occasionally carry passengers
2 accidents in 2016 (one NF, other currently not settled)
Now back to 1 year NCB owing to the above (otherwise be 3 years)
SP50/6 points/fine in the car in 2016
1 NF car accident in 2016
Full bike license for 1 year
3-4k pa. miles before allowing for the dodgy speedo (it's only recording about 15% of the miles I do)

Would you trust MCE (I'm borderline as long as I don't claim and use it as only something to keep me legal) or should I call the current lot to get them to match - will they?

Nope. I wouldn't touch MCE with a barge pole.

Point taken - considering I'm 50/50 on suing them I've not gone back.

Called my current insurer and they got as low as they could - £419 which I took, half last year's ok i guess......

Hi all, very long term lurker so please be kind. Started a new project with work which means A lot less working from home and more time in the office.
My New Years resolution was to use the bike more, so today despite the rubbish weather I left the car and used the bike.
Having not ridden much last year, 2000 miles in total, and not using the bike since the end of August, I am surprised by how much I enjoyed it.
However the once mint bike is covered in muck, but New Years resolution number 2 is to try and not be so OCD about things. Have booked it in to All Year Biker for protecting.
Looking forward to getting my mileage up this year.

Rode to work fine, left work and rode about half a mile before I aborted the journey home due to the wind and rain.

Did a u turn and went back and got the train, embarrassing I know, but it was absolutely ridiculous.

My weather app was showing 30/40mph winds. I've not been riding long but tonight was the worst conditions I've ridden in.

Bring back the snow!

Depends, do you intend to claim, or is it just to be legal.

I got a TPFT MCE policy for £150 for my old blackbird.

No point getting a £450 full comp policy, then £300 excess on a bike that's really worth £1500 ish. Cheper to fix it myself if it goes down.

Bloody windy ride yesterday that's for sure. Much windier than the day before. Quite scary at times but hey it made for an exiting ride rotate

Finally good to have some dry roads - yesterday evening anyway....have missed getting my lean on smile

Have also discovered some more banger bike "character", when holding +9k rpm on a constant throttle then easing off my FI warning light (red) comes on, not sure if its related to the non-functional speedo or something else?

Always goes off and doesn't come on when the bike is re-started either? - bike still rides fine too - annoying but something I can put up with i think

The trick is to not let the bike get to dirty... during the week if there has been a lot of rain and at this time of year that means dirty roads I will rinse the bike down as soon as I get home which is sufficient to prevent dirt build up. At the weekends I'll give it a proper clean and check over that takes an hour. Once you develop a method it is straight forward to keep a nice bike looking good regardless of use. Every Spring I strip the bike down and give it a good deep clean.

It's a bit of effort and time, but that is how I've kept my bikes immaculate in over 10yrs of commuting. I do try and avoid road salt though at all costs. e.g. when the gritters have just been out or frost / ice overnight. For that there is the car.
