What's the deal with the M3. Too much awesome and able to use it to its full potential? Its probably like other BMWs and a bit dull.
I keep breaking it and it's gone beyond a joke now. What's the deal with the M3. Too much awesome and able to use it to its full potential? Its probably like other BMWs and a bit dull.

Oh yeah, I blew one of my exhausts to pieces. I then fitted another and it came in at 99.1dB static (limit 102dB) without a baffle and then three sessions later it was tripping the trackside meter apparently. I'm getting a bit fked off with the noise at Oulton, as if I baffle it then it'll blow itself apart like the other one did.
I'd post a photo, but this st site seems not to want me to do that anymore
Was that the one with the dodgy end cap? It was only a matter of time with that one.I'd post a photo, but this st site seems not to want me to do that anymore

Please don't say that. That's the one I'm using now. The one that disintegrated was the one that I bought to replace this one! Nervous for the weekend to say the least.
It should be OK without a baffle, as for with I dunno, we'll see I guess, you'd better order some more hugely expensive end caps or change to an alloy exhaust as once carbon has lost its integrity its gone, you could try and keep them off the floor, it might help?Jazoli said:

I'm getting a couple of cheap stainless stuff from Quill and getting it dyno'd amd set up there. bks to paying £700 per end can, when a stainless one is c£160. I'm not precious over weight, or looks when it comes to a trackbike. In fact the same could be said of my taste in women too. Jazoli said:

I was there on my 675 daytona and a mate on an f4 MV
What was you riding? which group?
Ash
I was in novice as it was my first ever track day, riding the old Honda Hornet - Think I was on the 2nd slowest bike there but I'm sure I didn't find the limit even on this. Pretty sure I saw both your bikes, definitely the MV anyway. Did you have a good time? What was you riding? which group?

I got there around 6:40 and all that was there were shiny track bikes with vans/trailers, me and my mate (on a fireblade) were getting rather concerned there wasn't going to be any road bikes at all that day until thankfully some turned up just before sign on. We both had a wicked time and already looking to book another, think I might fancy a cheap faired bike for next time though as I did find 130mph odd was quite hard on my neck and the rest of me. Anything anyone would recommend, cheap and cheerful but track suited?

Really addictive, such a great day and likewise thinking about a cheap bike i can get for track use only.
Planning the next track day too.
Some awesome machinery in the pit garages
Arrived at Snetterton yesterday for my first motorcycle track day in 10 years, and having just started riding again this summer after a similar gap.
What amazed me was the level of kit folks now have for track days. Wets, slicks, portable generators, tyre warmers, etc. Sound like my Dad now, but, when I was a lad we would rock-up on our bikes and ride home after a full day. Very few folks seemed to do this yesterday, not complaining, just amazing to see the change in habits and level of sophistication.
The day was brilliant. Wobbled around in intermediates for a few laps until my tyres warmed up and then started to work the Hypermotard. Its a brilliant bike for the road and was fun at Snetterton but with absolutely no wind protection I hit a brick wall at 130 mph on the straights. It will be an awesome bike at maybe Cadwell (will book a session in August). Might have to look for some supermoto/go kart tracks as well. :-)
Really looking forward to the weekend, I will ride the ZX10R for the first time on Saturday and should be a much better bike for Snetterton.
A few observations.
Early in the day I noticed lots of folks using tyre warmers, are they typically used for slicks and wets? Sticky road/track tyres (like diablo supercorsa sp's, etc.) must warm up this time of year in 1-2 laps?
A lot of red flags during the day. Folks throwing their bikes down the road in the very first lap. Out of the 7 or so intermediate sessions I did, I would say at least 4 were stopped once, with 2 being stopped twice. Is this now typical?
The "novice" session was full of dedicated track bikes and clearly some of the riders were VERY capable. The speed differential was huge.

It's all dependant on the crowd really, very hit and missGeorge29 said:

It's on the Pirelli bridge at Clay Hill. There may be several though.
There are a few spots and they change the position of them for each track day apparently. To try and stop people knowing where they are and short shifting to avoid it. I've not tripped it yet but I did ask a Marshall where they were and he knowingly "couldn't confirm anything" wink wink, say no more, after I suggested the two locations mentioned earlier.
