I took a run out to Geelong today to take a look at a couple of Thruxtons with the fairing fitted. I hadn't seen one, and since it was sunny here...
This is a Thruxton R, but resprayed green. Note the matching Bell Bullitt on the seat.
The bar lowering kit actually made the seating position more comfortable for a tall rider like myself. As well as dropping them by a couple of inches, they're also shifted forward by a similar amount. This makes it feel quite a bit more spacious.
The bike also had the official Triumph tail tidy fitted. That cleans up the back a lot, and removes the mudguard.
Compare with a standard bike.
I had been thinking of the flyscreen, shown here on a Bonneville T120, but it's almost vertical. The fairing looks sleeker, though the Rizoma version might be an alternative.

The Analog Thruxton Tail Tidy v2 is on pre-sale until the end of the month at $399, instead of $455. It looks neater than the Triumph part, but I'm not sure about its legality.
Love that rear end! CaptainSlow said:
£8600I only came across the thruxton R a week or two back and then I saw this thread too - I'm liking it. Destination Triumph who are near me have a demo bike I happened to notice. I can feel a little visit coming... I have Street Triple R right now and like the brand and I'm more of a grunty guy than a screamer guy (that's referring to bike engines). And I'm 45 and could do with an injection of old guy cool to the extent such a thing is possible.
Right, that's the man logic sorted...

Funny you should say that.... To use the pistonheads phrase of choice, "I pulled the trigger". Very exciting. It suited my riding style and my ageing-man credentials. Plenty of grunt, a nice gurgle, very nicely damped, the action is at sensible revs, some nice details, very comfortable and reassuring to ride but with a little bit of the hooligan underneath.
Just got to wait a while now

While I really, really like the look of that, can you justify spending 5% of the bike's value on a tail tidy :/As for legality, the license plate has to be behind the rear wheel.

I'm loving mine. Picture posted elsewhere but thought I'd share here...

The Street Cup looks good but once you start adding a few things, the base model Thruxton is not far off, and then from there the £1300 extra for the R appears like an umissable deal. Has anyone ridden both Thruxton variants?
I asked the same question a while back as every road test was on the RRidden both, bought the standard as I prefer the full retro look to the more hybrid mix of the R and have no plan to go on track where the differnce would be worth it. Bike magazine rode both a few months ago and said pretty much the same. The standard is a lovely bike, the engine is exactly the same as the R so it is really down to which look you prefer and whether you're going to extract the extra out of the upgrades on the R. You can't go wrong either way.
I collect my Thruxton R on Friday afternoon. Very excited. The weather looks OK also so might get to do a few miles rather than head straight home which would be a bonus in November.
I'll have a think about any accessories/tweaks. It's standard right now. Some sort of tail tidy/losing the rear mudguard is a favourite and I keep reading about owners changing the exhaust. No rush, but it will be fun.

I popped into our Triumph dealer the other day for a tee-shirt, I was absolutely bowled over by the Thruxron/R, what an absolute stunner it is, I've always been a late '80's/early 90's sport bike kind of chap so I've never really seen a new bike in a showroom that I've really wanted...until now! It really does look like as good, if not better, than the Ducati Classic.
Interesting to read that comment about whether to go for the standard or R version, I love the polished yokes of the R and of course, that's a lot of extras you're getting for the money, whether they're either needed or noticeable with 'real' normal day-to-day riding is another matter though, but most of us love upgraded suspension and brakes.
Would be interested to hear more feedback about what they're like generally, reliability and build quality and how good Triumph after sales are (although this may be more down to the dealer)
You lucky, lucky chaps
