4k plus the Fazer sounds steep.
Servicing is every 4k, so if it's on 25k now and it had a service at 21k, it's due.
I have a candy red (with all the luggage)
I paid £3500 for it privately two years ago, twith history and 18k miles on it, valves done at 16k.To buy the luggage is around 3-500 second hand.
There were a couple of scuffs on it where it's had 0mph drops/laydowns and I've added to this, as It's my first bike for 20 years and, well, stupid schoolboy errors.
Things like stalling at low revs I've put down to my clumsiness, but I haven't ridden many other bikes to compare. I've not considered it a problem, just kept the revs up a bit.
Done a couple of two and three day tours on it. my bum was sore on the way back, but I did enjoy myself exploring the Yorkshire and welsh B rooads and country lanes.
But I normally go out for 1/2 a day on the weekend, and get through at least half a tank or over 100 miles.
9k miles in and very happy with it, to the point I'm thinking I'll keep it for a few years yet.
the handling could be down to the suspension, my preload at 27k doesn't adjust the full way ( i need to add fork oil to top up the remote adjuster) the fork seals and fork oil had been done too.
There's lots of talk about fuse wiring, regulator rectifiers and stators on the facebook pages, but you can buy kits for a Mosfet reg rec, and get your stator rewound, as third party Stators have tales of early failures on them.
There's loads always for sale. Buy on price and condition. find he one that's been cherished. As I said, 4k plus a fully working bike sounds a bit steep, firstly at this time of year, and especially as he's "giving it a once over" which I read as "I'm not committing to doing any work on it above the absolute bare minimum to pass an MOT".
And Don't forget - Single sided swingarm which has to be the "pop up headlights" of the bike world.

Thanks for the feedback and the nice action shot.
I'm certain that they'll get the bike prepped well, they refer to a PDI, committed to MOT it - okay, so they've been vague on what they'll do, but I suspect that they'll do it properly. They're away for a week now and I'll ruminate and chat with them upon their return.
In the meantime, I've been looking at other bikes.

OP I would buy the blue VFR1200 and runa mile from the Multistrada.
amongst my riding crew, four have had Multi’s and have had a litany of expensive electronic failures (mostly suspension related) both in and out of warranty. One of them completely sheared it’s crank, at under 12k miles. They’re great bikes when working but massively fragile. All four have moved them on.
Meanwhile the bloke with the VFR12 just keeps piling on the miles. Brilliant bikes, if a little visually challenging at first. Take a test ride, it’s a stonking engine. Poor luggage capacity and tank range for a sports tourer, however.

Sounds like you've got a tricky choice bm - lots of great bikes available at a slightly increased budget, most of them would do what you want quite well, although the bigger they are the less flickable around town they are. Have you room to keep the Fazer as well? Might be worth hanging onto a bike you know, like and suits one use case when it's not worth a great deal.

Which ones, out of interest?Krikkit said:

It has occurred to me - and I ask Yamaha for a £75 Conformity of Certificate reference and then become exempt from ULEZ. An issue is that the fan isn't working, so that may need to be repaired in time.I also can't stop eyeing up this bike.
It's a proprietary engine, under/around 200kg and no TC.

The suspension failures were on early versions with the 'Skyhook' suspension. Electronics regularly went haywire. PurpleTurtle said:

Which ones, out of interest? The crank failure was a a Multistrada 1200S. Google 'Multistrada snapped crank' and it's far from an uncommon problem. Ducati not playing ball outside of warranty, but some of the reported mileages are very low, suggests to me these cranks are made of chocolate.

Oh... the H2... they actually have one of those for sale also... and they do pique my interest.
I'd rather not have another IL4 engine, however.
I understand, but a charged engine is very different to it's naturally aspirated equivalent. I'd recommend trying one, if just to be nosey! I'd rather not have another IL4 engine, however.

This is the example they have, which is more than I wish to spend.
Kudos to you for owning one, though. I'd love to try one and have been fascinated by them ever since launch.
