That is a nice machine.

How do you find the bar position and general position compared to the monster.

Also, where is the monster advertised?
Hi PT.

It is slightly sportier/more leaned forward than the Monster I'd say but not massively so. Riding position felt "familiar" if you know what I mean. I've been thinking all along it will hopefully feel like a modern version of my Monster and I think it will.

Re the sale of the Monster it was part-ex'd with the dealer in Hinckley so will probably pop up somewhere in the Midlands for sale in due course I expect. It was just easier to trade it in although I know I could have got more privately of course. Had good history, fresh MOT, etc. I would have probably advertised it here but PH have removed it haven't they.

Funnily enough my mechanic showed an interest in it as it was the one bike that they'd had in that they really liked! Trouble is the trade-in price was pretty decent tbh so even if I gave it to them for that (which I would have, plus maybe a free service down the line wink), it wasn't exactly bargain of the century.

Right, I’ll be honest here. I had the horn over my bar-ends so went out for a dusk “shakedown” wink ride and to take some pictures. When I took them I thought they were magazine-worthy then got home and realised they’re a bit st hehe

Anyway…

And finally… I think I am going to describe this bike as “neo-retro”…

…until someone calls me a bell-end and I’ll stop!

Thanks for that. It really does look brilliant.

How did you find the big thumper compared to the V? Quite a bit of character I presume?

I definitely need to get used to it, that's for sure. Being in the right gear in particular. It doesn't like being below 3k and I think I need to ride a gear lower than I normally would. Initially I thought it didn't feel that fast, however it was me not revving it enough and when you get to 7-8k it does feel decently quick.

Two things I really like are having a gear indicator and the quickshifter. However, I will miss the much more mechanical feel of the Monster's gear change.

Re character, right now, I would say the Monster sounded better. Certainly at idle and low rpm. Where the Monster would, I would say, "growl", this "barks". It's weird; there is not much sound then all of a sudden it barks into life! Had a few pops on upshifts too. So it is characterful I would say but just in a different way.

That 701 really is a smart looking bike.

Monsters already up for sale too haha. Think this is it.

Interesting! Indeed it is. Typo in the ad on the mileage; it is 38.5k miles.

I'm surprised they are selling it themselves tbh. Their stock is generally newer/more expensive. Maybe that is why it didn't even make it inside the building rofl

It is now in my eBay Watchlist! And I can confirm to any interested parties that it definitely doesn't need picking up in a van - I am insulted!

Oops sorry mods!

To be clear, it was my old bike for sale by the guys I'd traded it to, so no gain for me! Consider me sufficiently chastised however.

It strengthens their case when arguing that a buyer's rights under CRA 2015 don't apply.

Hi mate, sorry, only just seen this comment.

And as you might notice from my other thread... not very well! Absolutely loved the bike but it was stolen on 24th September.

As for the bike though, it was absolutely perfect for what I use a bike for nowadays, ie blasting along country lanes and (trying to) look cool doing it wink. Would very much recommend one...

...and on that note the search starts for a replacement. If you don't mind I'll pop my thoughts down here as a) my brain still a bit scrambled and it is helpful to get my thinking jotted down and b) to elicit any opinion on what I am considering.

So the only common theme here is that I like a naked bike, preferably a bit on the retro side.

Options I'm considering:
1) Another Vitpilen. Loved it and it was very "me". Argument against is comparing to what I had which was perfect
2) R nine T. Been on my radar for years. Grunty, good looks, premium. Great all-rounder. Probably what I am leaning toward most
3) CB1000R (the latest one). Love the looks, seem to ooze quality. Probably overkill for my use
4) Street Scrambler 900. Looks amazing, bet it sounds amazing. Great to pose on. Bit gutless?
5) KTM Duke 790/890. Not what I would typically be drawn to looks-wise but can't help but think it would suit my riding and be the most fun. Seen a 790 with an SC Project on it and it looks mega but heard the 790 can be a bit iffy...?

I might even ping some links in here for an opinion or two.

Have you seen the KTM reliability thread? M&P in Swansea have/had new A2 compatible 790s for £6K.

I've had three or four pre-A2 105bhp ones as loaners. I like them lots, I like the torque, the noise, the looks, the flickability and the size but I don't have bandwidth in my life at the moment for a toy creating problems or niggles that will annoy me everytime I switch it on. I'd find it frustrating that the 790 would have so much performance that I couldn't use on the roads I use most often.

The CB1000R caught my eye as a dealer in Herts. had a lightly used Plus in black for £6K, but it seems the paint is a bit soft on the earlier ones and the headlamp isn't that good. The owner review I watched said they sound good. I've a juicy car so while I don't commute a bike that's relatively economical has some appeal to me. I think Crescent having a maroon and silver one brought them to my attention.

A white Street Twin has appeared near me, and the revised with better brakes Street 900 had much appeal to me, but having read on owners' forums of issues with the Trident 660s cutting out and stalling after I left a deposit on one last year has put me off of the brand. If they'd issued a recall or TSB I'd probably have bought it and been a year into being a Trident 660 owner. I felt a mug as I'd seen the threads here about issues with the new 1200s.

Ducati Scrambler 900. Even the 1100.

I love mine. When my wife can’t find me I’m in the garage looking at it with a whisky.
