Excellent have a great trip. Any bike tour is exciting so I'm sure it will be fun.

I expect it's on your list but the IoM motor museum in Jurby is top notch...........

https://www.isleofmanmotormuseum.com/

Weather forecast for next week looks pretty good (for IoM in October anyway!) It's often worse in July!

My VFR1200FD flipped past 40k miles yesterday on my London commute. Never noticed until the odometer read 40,037 otherwise I'd have pulled over to get a celebration photo of the big event.

Did 36k on my previous VFR1200 so I'm now on 76k miles with these bikes and still have no desire to switch it out for anything else.

Just wish Honda would bring out a decent replacement with DCT.

My only options are VFR1200 Xtourer (hate adventure style), Africa Twin (too slow), NT110 (good grief what were they thinking of with this gutless piece of st!)

tbh I've never been smitten with the looks of the VFR1200F but on a practical level it does everything I want/need brilliantly.

Thanks all. It started hurriedly and I wasn't really ready having had a head full of work; it turns out that all of us had the same look in our faces, so it was a relief to arrive at a pub and have a drink. As it turns out, it was a bit of a gastro pub. Much to the disappointment of the guys that ordered a beer and burger and conversely, much to the delight of this foodie who ordered grilled sardines with a glass of verdejo followed by confit duck with puy lentils with a red rioja chased with a pint of guinness. The Eyston Arms, recommended.

So, to this morning. I woke up at 0430hrs, bright as a button and had to force myself to sleep until 6am. We hit the road early doors and it soon transpired that the chap had put together an excellent route. It was fantastic riding into Burford at 7.30am with the mist settled on the meadows set in rolling hills. It was pretty fast moving and very enjoyable -- not too cold, either.

The ferry crossing was calm and I enjoyed an excellent 'home made' steak pie, too.

Tasted far better than it looks!

Lots of trail bikes and also quads, apparently IoM is popular with these folk for the challenging aspects.

Bike felt good, Michelin Road 6 are great and riding company happy to make progress.

Following your lead I rolled down to GTC myself last week and had them fit a pair of Road 6s on my VFR1200F too.

Very impressed with them on the ride home but then it's always a transformation when you switch to new rubber.

Interestingly they found that my front wheel bearings needed replacement and luckily had some in stock so great to get that sorted at the same time. 40k miles so I guess they did ok.

That's great. My bike is much more sprightly with them on, moreso than the M9RRs. I feel as though the rolling radius is less acute, which suits the geometry of my set up.

I haven't updated on it yet as I wanted to finish off my IoM trip, but I had a service and they adjusted the headstock. Since then, the bike has been far easier to control at slow speeds when filtering, too.

An addition to the top box sticker collection arrived today, sourced off ebay.

The quality isn't fantastic, leading me to suspect that it's a reprint, but it'll do.

Just read this from the start.

Good reading and a nice thread of ups and downs.
It would be good to understand how much you have actually spent on that bike as opposed to buying a well sorted bike for a similar price? Perhaps the s1000xr.
I really want to try out that bike and a ktm super duke gt as my next bike.
I currently have a kwak 1000sx 2021 and feel that spending money on a bike, making it something it will never be.

Thanks.

Finger in the air, including purchase price around £1 per mile. The big spends were the major service when purchased at £2,500ish and the suspension service that was £1,000ish iirc. For less than £10k, I have a powerful and comfortable bike that covers a multitude of purposes and is really well sorted.

The most effective adjustments:

- major service with new spark plugs and air filter
- suspension overhaul
- ecu mapping
- oem handlebars
- oem screen
- m9rr tyres and now the excellent Pilot road 6
- louder horn!

I don't regret much other than not having just opted for a lower mileage bike to begin with, as it wouldn't have given me the low speed grief that I experienced with this bike and the subsequent concern and fairing/cover damage that it entailed.

As it happens, I met up with the Isle of Man crew today and went for a morning ride around Hampshire and West Sussex for breakfast. The bike and tyres performed as well as required considering the lower speeds.

stty photo taken at Billy's on the Road, Billingshurst (though nearer Five Oaks). Interesting place.

I bought mine for £5k Inc a full valve service. Spent £440 on a Nitron shock and £380 Inc fitting on K tech springs and fork pistons. I may at some point do the ECU flash and seat.

What you're forgetting is that the overwhelming majority of stock bikes have st suspension, st fueling and st seats. Upgrading st parts is hardly "making it something it will never be". All the bikes you mentioned have generic weight springs for their suspension and would benefit from customised setup - anyone thinking otherwise doesn't know what they're talking about.

Oooh nice one I do like a Billy's breakfast.

Not in this morning's rain though so top marks for getting out and about.

I'm now on the lookout for my 3rd Vfr1200f as there still isn't a new model replacement bike available that ticks all the same boxes.

I did 36k miles on my first and now 40k on my second. Clearly I won't get a new one but keeping an eye out for a really low miles 2016 model.

I'll then swap my suspension and end can etc before selling off my high miler.

If nothing comes up I'll stick with my current one as it's going well atm
