So what is the minimum temperature for biking, is there one? Obviously ice is an issue, and I won't use my bike on salted roads because it's a BMW and will rot. But if it's dry what's the limit?
15.Was making good time today until I got to a Police car on full blues and twos making his way through the traffic at the bottom of the M4 into London where the old bus lane was, couldn't really overtake him as thought that may be scorned upon so followed him for nearly 1.5 miles and boy was it slow ........ he then peeled off just after the Audi dealer .. and normal service resumed ... was quite annoying as was away from home early and wanted to be in a tad earlier, all time lost !!!
Couple of minor irritations this morning (but then I was irritated before I even set off!).
Chappie on a ZX1000 leading a line of about a dozen bikes down to the Blackwall. We were going so slowly that it was a case of riding the clutch in 1st for the full duration of that piece of road. I get it, we're all different, but FFS look in your mirrors occasionally and see how many people you're holding up (and then get out of the way!).
And then. Around where I work, (Shoreditch), the council have had the brainwave of making certain roads one-way....unless you're a cyclist, when you're free to ride head-on to the oncoming traffic. Genius. One of the roads I use every day is thus. It's easily 2 cars wide even with the parked cars. This morning, Ms Lycra decided that she should ride down her right-hand side of the road. In other words, directly head-on towards about 350kg of BMW, rider, lights and hi-vis, when there was probably a car's width empty to my right/her left She went all "rabbit in the headlights" and then actually rode down the inside of me, between me and the parked cars, almost fell off, then stopped in the road arms & legs akimbo yelling at me!

Got my ski jacket ready for when it gets below -4 celsius. I put it over the top of my textiles and provides that extra warmth barrier and insualtion for my heated jacket. Because generally I am out of bed and on my bike doing 90mph on the motorway in a turn around of about 20 minutes I am still a bit cosy from bed so having the warm torso is essential. Nothing to stop my thighs getting cold but i can deal with thatsupercommuter said:
My insurance has doubled for my AT. They don't actually know it spends 3 days of working hours each week sat on the street in the west end in London, purely because they did not ask me - but insured in a garage in Bristol with commuting it is insanely expensive
I've left commuting switched on for my new policy because I'd like to still use it in the Summer to ride into London (thats the plan anyway). I still can't believe the premium I've paid but I literally double checked everything in detail. But it is now garaged in a low risk postcode in Hampshire.Pothole said:
Please buy a better lock, or two, if you're leaving your bicycle at a station during the day.
I considered that but my hybrid would go walkies as its wayyyyy too nice even with two locks.Brompton as I need/want to cycle both ends.. it stays with me and comes on the train.
Ride in was ok, bit cold but enjoyable. Ride home was a bit different, snow for the last section, meant I couldn't see through my visor, wiping the snow off made my leather gloves soaking wet, which then made my fingers get uncomfortably cold and I couldn't feel my left hand.
Made it home and the Mrs wasn't happy I'd taken the bike today
I could do with some decent cold/dry gloves. I have Richa cold winter gloves and they are rubbish, no warmer than my summer gloves with thermal liner and they are really bulky. Heated grips were on max, but the wet leather wasn't going to help
Made it home and the Mrs wasn't happy I'd taken the bike today

I bit the bullet before Christmas and bought some Rukka Ceres Goretex gloves, expensive, but 100% dry and have been serving me well this winter, also not massively bulky like some winter gloves. Made it home and the Mrs wasn't happy I'd taken the bike today
