And today's commuting highlight is...

I put a woolly hat and some insulated thermal gloves in my top box today just in case I hit any problem getting home due to snow. Obvs that means snow is now guaranteed to miss the uk entirely
Pretty much all of the UK is expected to get some snow at some point today and into tonight, but I think it will vary a lot over the country.Thought to myself "maybe this is a bit ambitious" having seen 4 car accidents in the first two miles.
Had no idea how slippery it was until I put my foot down at the first set of lights and nearly fell off.
Once I got within shooting distance of the smoke and most of the ice cleared it was a lovely sunny morning apart from not being able to feel my toes.

Hats off to anyone commuting on their motorbike today . I am working from home!
Wish I could work from home!!Bike again today, supposed to snow later so that will be interesting... Six months ago I would only use the bike when it was warm and dry, now I never want to use the car.

I shouldn't laugh ..... nearly did the same. Our house is at the end of a close exited at the end via a 90 degree left and then a 100m 1 in 3 hill that has a set of lights at the top, rode gingely off, temp showing -3, took the left, went to drive up the hill, rear started to spin, traction light going mad, eased off reapplied, found some grip, made my way to the top of the hill and the lights are red, not idea as hill starts there are a pain at the best of time, put left foot down, nearly went from under me so put right foot down and whilst holding the front brake on hard the f***er started sliding back, only a few inches, ended up having to put it back in gear and hold it with front brake and clutch, finally got on the main road and drove in cautiously.
A4 at Knowl Hill was carnage as there were 2 cars spread all over the road, looks like one of them lost it big time, debris everywhere, and then the elevated section of the M4 by the Audi garage was a crawl as a lorry had broken down.
Proper slow and my feet were frozen when i got in ......
On the way home today I was turning right onto a main road from a side road, no cars around. Back wheel entered an involuntary slide, which surprisingly I quite enjoyed. Spent the rest of my journey riding really slowly and then accelerating and turning to provoke another small power slide. Hands were pretty chilly though.

Bottled it this morning. Yesterday was bad enough but today it was -4 when leaving for work. Just too much ice about and with a stinking cold felt my reactions weren't up to it.
"he who runs away lives to fight another day" and all that.
Fair play ....."he who runs away lives to fight another day" and all that.
I had the option to work from our Reading office today so jumped in wifeys cab to the station, our office is opposite, ideal, was proper foggy too so really glad I wasn't headed for the M4
Stay safe out there all ...
I only needed to go about 5 miles to the station on country roads so risked it and stuck to the roads I knew were gritted, it was -7 and in those few miles my throttle and choke cables both froze, couldn't get the bike above 40mph... Probably be in the car tomorrow by the looks of it
I got 100 yards from the house on Tuesday morning before the TPMS went berserk. Sure enough, nail in the rear tyre. That's the second in 6 months vs the third in over 20 years. Since I moved jobs I'm now in building-site central so I guess that's the culprit.
So I've been on the train since, until I can get the tyre done tomorrow. I guess if I were able to be honest with myself that would be a blessing in disguise given conditions this week, but I have to say, if I couldn't commute on the bike I'm pretty sure I'd end up either stabbed or in jail for life. I've had it all in the past three days: stinky people, I want one-and-a-half seats people, trip you up from behind on the stairs out of the tube people (nearly went flying this morning from that), elbow you as they walk past your seat people - you name it.
Bah.

Did the full 120 miles in this morning 7-9am - was not really cold at all on my torso. When it gets down to -2 ish I throw my lightweight ski jacket over the top of my kit, makes a massive difference as it completely stops and cold soaking in.
Did see -6c on the dash by Swindon. Lovely views of the frosty fields and the sun rising tho
