I'm really tempted by that. I will have to see if I still fit in my leathers though. Might be interesting taking the VFR on track.
Ah you'll be fine, me and a pal of mine have both had our VFR 750's on track. Ground clearance is crap with the pegs being so low but providing you take that into account it's fine. Showing people up on dedicated track bikes with a 20 year old sports tourer is where the real fun is at!

I don't think the VFR will struggle, it's just a bit soft set up for the road rather than the track like the thunderace was.
What groups have you guys booked? I'm unsure what to book at the moment. Last time I was at Oulton I was comfortably in fast group but that was on a much faster bike and I've not ridden on track for a year now.

The Banter has indeed begun again!
As for your groups and who does what where- you're all big boys so don't worry where anybody else is and choose your own for your own appropriate reasons....
the bravado factor of having to be in a given group .for what its worth , because X Y or Z is in it, is wrong.
As MotorsportTom says, who incidentally exemplifies trackday fun, having a whale of a time, at his own pace on his own machine running well and just enjoying it, rather than having his sights set on particular " targets" despite the jovial " showing people up " poor choice of words, above.
Dave is fresh out on a new to him bike, Scott has his highly spec'd and cherished Beastie Blade to reintroduce to track and (SAS)Tom,who did indeed pass quite a few in fast group outings when he last road, got a bit giddy and ended up concentrating on targets and lean angle for the pics , rather than body position and improvement and ended up destroying his bike which was being worked hard , but yes, on older technology and weight, which needed compensating for ....
Make your choice, go for the fun factor and relax, don't fall into the trap of comparison and competition, ride with each other rather than against and it will be a lot more enjoyable for all.
See you there !

Unfortunately awesome was full so I'll be cruising around in medium or inters as I've not even ridden the R1 yet and I've not ridden a bike for 6 months, as Graham said it doesn't matter anyway as long as you are having fun.hebegb said:
Good news - will be good to see you all out again, Scott, Dave and Tom.

Looks like the decision has already been made if fast is booked up! The reason for asking is I enjoy riding with mates who are at a similar pace, that is much more fun than spending all day on your own.The Banter has indeed begun again!

Crashing wasn't due to targets (I had a basically empty track) or lean angles (that's just how I ride rightly or wrongly) it was just a case of going too fast trying to find the "right" line on a corner I struggle with.
I'll try my leathers tonight, if it's realistic for me to lose enough weight to fit in them properly in time then I'll get it booked.

I've booked Inters which I'm hoping will allow me to have a bit of fun and some room for improvement.
Excited and apprehensive... first time for Oulton on two wheels. First track day since August.

It was a very lighthearted look at things, I've no doubts for one reason or many reasons I was passing, or being passed by others. It does feel good when somebody with a very nice looking dedicated track bike is being ridden slower than an old hunk of junk.
How do adventure bikes fare on track?
The KTM could go for a little wobble round I'm sure

Dusting the excuse book off already?
I have no excuses as I have nothing to prove Fast group isn't full as far as I know, the never advertised awesome group however was full when I rang and asked.
And Scott you will love Oulton, its full on with no straights to relax and take a breath on, gym tonight for me! If you have Project Cars on an Xbox or PS4 its a good way of learning which way the track goes.

Tom(SAS) , sorry if you feel I was inaccurate , I didn't mean your crash at that particular instance was for a specific reason as I could not know this, but more an increasingly likely event based upon observations and trends. It can happen to any of us , anytime, but happens for a reason every time.
Enjoy.
