The work on my Viffer continues:

Yep, one very leaky fork. The bike had stood for many years in the past and the stanchions are a bit pitted (higher up) and scored (in the area of travel) so clearly the seal got killed.
So, whip them off:

And take them apart:

And I got the bottoms powder coated:

Tried various suppliers in regard to upgrading the internals, as I noticed that there's really bugger all damping (certainly in compression and not much better in rebound), but they all want the forks for weeks, so spotted this place on a few Viffer forums: http://www.daughertymotorsports.com/vfr750.html Great thing is, I can just get the parts I need for a sensible price (even with VAT which will inevitably be added on etc). So I've ordered a fork cartridge kit which gives me adjustable damping, some SKF seals, and a CBR929 rear damper to go with the forks. It'll be nice to have a bike that handles properly!

http://www.performance-powdercoating.co.ukYeah, I'd recommend - they're helpful and did the job extremely quickly, the forks had been blasted and coated (metallic, so it's got a clear coat on it too) - by the time I'd driven back home, they called me to say they were ready. Probably fairly pricey, but I was happy with the service. I've scraped the caliper mounts and other machined spot faces so that things are back to aluminium and the coating is extremely thick.
