I just wanted to let you all know that despite being told by two honda dealerships including John Banks and Fowlers Bristol, I have just been told that if you do not have your bike serviced by Honda you are invalidating your warranty.
I am not happy at all as I now have an expensive bike sat there with a complicated gearbox with no Warranty.
It was news to John Banks and they are discussing with regional honda and going to get back to me.
ETA: 1800 miles in
They're talking sh*t. You're covered. The only stipulation for warranty is that genuine Honda parts are used. That's all.I am not happy at all as I now have an expensive bike sat there with a complicated gearbox with no Warranty.

Just read the T&C's mate. Does say in there it is not covered if you don't use a dealership.
I didn't have this problem on warranty issues on my last bike. So I am not sure why they are saying this now.

Just for the sake of clarity:
The vehicle warranty, supplied by Honda, will cover you for two years providing the services have taken place according to the schedule and used the correct, specified parts. That's just the law. No discussion.
However, the terms of a PCP/PCH agreement can dictate where you have to get the vehicle serviced because there is a value attached to getting dealer servicing.
So if your gearbox sh*ts itself, Honda will have to honour the warranty but Honda Finance may be a little upset with you at the end of term. The reality is, of course, they most likely won't give a sh*t.

I don't give a st about the pcp as I will be over the 3 year mileage limit by January. Just want to make sure it doesn't die on me

I don't know who told you it needed to be serviced at Honda but I just happened to have re-read my paperwork from Honda this morning, and it isn't true it will adversely affect waranty or value if you service elsewhere as long as you can demonstrate it was still as per manufacturer requirements. Based solely on my contract, I'd be reasonably confident you could pursue legal action if they claimed you have devalued your bike by using someone else.
The service manager at John banks said it to me on the phone yesterday. I am confident they will repair any issues in the first 2 years. But was after the three years which they advised me not to get.Prof Prolapse said:

I think you need to differentiate between the law and the reality of 2nd hand values. A bike or car that’s got a book full of main dealer stamps is worth more than one that’s independents or diy. Just market forces at work. As I posted earlier it doesn’t invalidate your warranty thx to EU law but to a 2nd hand buyer it’s worth less. The parts, oil etc are clearly the same , the only reason anyone pays higher labour rates is to protect residuals.
Definitely. It's always worth what someone will pay, but I thought we were discussing in the context of the contractually guaranteed value and what affects it. Not market forces. In other words if they're going to say you're not eligible for the "guaranteed minimumvalue", as you're out of contract for using an indy, this would need to be clearly stated. Which it isn't.
Obviously if you want to try and get more thab this value, staying main dealer may make sense.
I was just concerned that if the gearbox sts itself next year on 40k miles Honda are going to try and wriggle out of it. Sounds like they can't

Good stuffJust coming up to the first service and pleased with it so far ????
I rode home in horrid wind and rain last night. I LOVE this bike. I used to get blown all over the shop on my CB. This stays planted the whole time, no problem!

I bought Oxford touring heated grips... yet to be fitted but I may do it one evening when I not fettling another vehicle. The Honda accessories seemed way overpriced for what they are if I am honest.
Fitted heed bars, new exhaust which makes it sound like a angry Supermoto and changing the tyres for some conti's soon.
has anyone changed their oil early? Done nearly 300 miles so thinking about changing oil and then getting the 600 miles service done.
Mine was a little bit late...940 miles. But I did it in the first weekend so did not have time to get it serviced!Fitted heed bars, new exhaust which makes it sound like a angry Supermoto and changing the tyres for some conti's soon.

In all my gear I felt like I was riding home on a monkey bike. I looked an absolute bell end. I even pulled the mirror off in traffic by mistake in a total "HULK SMASH" moment much to amusement of the white van driver behind me.
Point remains though, it was st, but around town, something lighter would be my choice over the enormous Uganda Twin.
I couldn't help but think of the bloke here who is getting one as his first bike. I hope he's buying bars.
I did a few years going into London on a 500x and have now been using the Africa Twin. It is all about the handlebar slot between car wing mirrors and planning the progress. Which i have to do much more now as this is substantially wider.Point remains though, it was st, but around town, something lighter would be my choice over the enormous Uganda Twin.

That said I can still get most of the way in with no feet going down, unless a traffic light catches me. Dispatch'tastic. I am used to it now and have no problem with it. Might GoPro it on Monday, because I'm sad.

6,000 miles on the commute already?
I genuinely hope you're paid a st load of money.
1800-2000 leisure miles. The rest are commuting. Not quite there yet tho. I do OK, it is worth the lengthy commute a few times a week. This bike has replaced a bike that is literally used for everything. I don't have a car so this get's used to go anywhere and do everything. I considered getting a car but living around cities it is pointless. My wife has one that we use for everything else.I genuinely hope you're paid a st load of money.

The next service is due at 8000 miles ... unless you feel the need to get it done at 6000 ..
Oh, I thought it was 600 / 6000 / 12000...maybe i should re-look at my service book 675 Gaz said:
How far is your commute ? That's impressive going, I'm curious as to what the mileage has been on your previous bike too
It's 250 mile round trip into London 2 or 3 days a week.Previous mileages have been 80,000 from new, 58,000 from new and a few 35k milers. I have always lived in the countryside and worked in or around London. It's the way I like it. In the winter I stay there one night a week, see friends in the boozer or go running after work. I work from home a few days now, so not bad at all.
Funny thing is, it takes me 2 hours or so to get into he office. There are people that commute in from just outside the m25 and it takes them the same amount of time.

Perhaps but with that DCT 'box, there aren't many bikes I can get off the line quicker than the AT
I love traffic light GP's. I have fitted a slip on, but it is simply too loud so I need to put the baffle back in.Edited by supercommuter on Monday 12th March 11:33
