Honda MSX125 (Grom)... should I?

£285 is the cheapest i could find.
Ideally i would have liked the Yoshimura RS9 but at £485 isn't worth it on a 125cc ,
I've found the Finbro Facebooy page i think looks like they have 221cc bore kit which could be interesting but the 150cc kit seems good and at £152 could be a good price depending on shipping and customs charges

Well the end can is carbon but the rest is mild steel i think? couldn't wrangle anything off other than free fitting and CBT for the missus
I'm hoping she gets the bug and goes for her A2 license atleast then she can ride my bike restricted ....and i can bore the hell out of the msx

How so? Just completed 1070 commuting miles and it gets a bigger hoot every night, slicing through the traffic. The chain does appear to be made of knicker elastic though, my only gripe so far.

From what i've read Most replace the chain with a proper one when it goes in for first service. The chain does appear to be made of knicker elastic though, my only gripe so far.
With every Grom you buy a piece of motorcycling history, and extend it.
The horizontal single from Honda origins in the 60s and is in 120 Million production numbers now,
including the chinese / Thai / other countries copies / clones (legal & illegal).
The longest production run and evolution chain ever, probably only rivalled by the small block Chevrolet.
Of course, tuning parts are available from all over the world,
and in all sorts of qualities and budgets.
Drop in a 2014 190cc Daytona Anima with 4valve head and slight refinement and you have 30hp on tap,
although you are amongst the test drivers to find out how long it lasts. (1200€)
The 150-180cc YX and Zongshen blocks are around longer in the pitbike / monkeybike scene
and have to be modified / refined to last, but weak points are known now ( 15-20hp, 500€)
Or go all-out on quality and price with Takegawa parts / engines from Japan,
about 4-5.000 Pound will get you a 145-180cc engine with WSBK Standard,
screaming out over 20 hp @ 15-17.000 rpm, even a DOHC 4valve Desmo head is available.
Endless Chassis / carb / exhaust / ignition / younameit parts are just a click away,
and a great way to customize your bike and keep you busy in the shed.

The Grom (like the name better than all the letters/numbers combos we get here in Europe) is a big thumbs up-smile on your face kind of thing imho. In the world of 1000bhp/tonne bikes it's a back-to-basics fun project from Honda. Love it for all those reasons. Would calling it the MX-5 of the motorbike world be a bit far-fetched?

hmmmm now that information is usefull to know! i guess with time we will hopefully see some of the engine swaps from pitbikes into the MSX i can't help feel that stock hp should have been just a little more towards the 20hp range. especially when the cbr125r is around 13hp iirc.The horizontal single from Honda origins in the 60s and is in 120 Million production numbers now,

I don't really understand this need to modify - it's a fun bike and if it could take tuning, I'm sure Honda would do it.
It is expensive for a 125 at £2700(the build and spec justify it though)so adding to the cost makes limited sense.
You might just as well buy a Honda CRF250M trail bike for £4k because the MSX may be small but it's not particularly light (compared to something like the old CG125).
