The MT-09, Tracer and XSR900 all have different throttle mapping with the XSR900 being the nicest in my opinion.

Aprilia are known as the Japanese Honda, engines (generally) tend to be pretty reliable. If you're looking at a ducati I wouldn't be happy running a air cooled one through winter, but something like the monster 821/1200 I'd be happy to use all year round.

Had an MV Brutale 1090RR for a couple of years now, no issues at all 6k miles in. The factory are back in production now so the dealer network and parts supply should be fine. I've had no issues myself, and have bought quite a few upgrade/accessories in that time. In recent years MV tried to expand the dealer network before they had money problems, hence a few newer dealers solely relying on MV bike supply, have since gone under. I would buy from one of the established long term MV dealers.
Ducati are mainstream now, sold over 50K bikes last year and with their German owners are much better than they used to be in the 80s. Not to say you still cant get a duff bike with a few issues, combined with a poor dealer, that could be really frustrating.....but you could experience bad luck with just about any bike or car.
I can remember when I had an Aprilia shortly after they started importing to UK in late 80s. A couple of minor prangs left the bike off the road for months just waiting for minor parts like levers. I went back to Japanese after that.
These days I would have no issue in owning any of the Italian brands.

Haha, you've been reading the V4 post and now have an itch for an RSV4 and i don't blame you!
Personally i wouldn't buy a Ducati out of warranty, i would dread it going wrong, leaking oil etc and end up with a huge bill that i couldn't pay.
But for a V4 i would risk it, just stretch to a later model and i'm sure it would be fine.

My local dealer went under too but the dealer I bought from are still going strong... Just 240 miles there is too much for me

No idea what they're like to ride, mine is a gen2 v-twin model, not the v4
Completely different animals, 140bhp vs 170bhp, zero electronics vs APRC.
I know they're a cruise missile though, one of the best engines (and best sounding) out there.
You can get the 1100 factory for close to 11k, the 1100rr might come under £10k soon too.

I run the factory 1100 and can honestly say they are savage fast. I have mine mapped with a AR can/decat. Was out Sunday in the wet with supercorsa's (Stupid I know) and on concrete it would easily light up on the private road from 100 - thats not an exaggerationNo idea what they're like to ride, mine is a gen2 v-twin model, not the v4

The electronics are amazing. WC1, LC1, ABS2 (Keeps the rear from lifting in 2) and TC 3 in dry and 6-8 in wet and you just will not believe an upright bike can pull so hard all the way through the revs. Its crap below 5k and feels like a lazy twin but jesus it goes after that

Lifetime warranty too and they do a service plan which after the discount doesn't come out too much more than the independents...well worth it for the warranty in my opinion
Guy I dealt with was David and rides one himself although he may not like me now as my MV Agusta I part exchanged broke down after a few hundred miles so Im told and the customer rejected it
