I've been buying st I don't need. I ordered 3 suits from sportsbikeshop to try on. I cant think of a more pleasant way of trying on a one piece suit at home, all the time in the world to make a good decision .

The other option is falling out a tiny changing room half naked into a shop full of people because you cant get it off, that and the fact the shop assistant is hanging about outside getting bored.

I decided on the rst v4.1 . For the money I really cant see anything that matches it, and it fits, bonus smile

I do love the RST stuff and as you say, for the money nothing comes close.

I currently have an Alpinestars Challenger one piece but wanting a smaller one as I’ve lost a bit of weight and it’s either going to be a Challenger V2 which is around the £460 mark, spend a bit more and get the Missile which is currently £800 or look at some of the RST suits. I’m likely to get a better suit for less money.

I’ve bought a new helmet and some new boots so far!

Likewise

My Dad used to take me to "Scrambles" as a kid and the Maico was always a bit of a mythical beast
Context;

500's of that era made circa 52 bhp like the Maico 490, YZ 490 etc.
The bike that made the biggest impression on me ever was my best mate's brothers CR 500 national Spec. Andy rode with the likes of Dave Thorpe et al and riding his bike at Canada Heights terrified the bejeezas outta me, still to this day I giggle at the terror I felt at the time when it came on the pipe and roostered me up the hill. It was stupendously epicly pant fillingly scary and exhilarating at the same time.

Fast forward to today, any 250 2T has nearly 50 bhp and is as scary as a basket of kittens.

But nothing can emulate the sound of a big aircooled 2T.

Fair play Birky, lovely LOVELY bit of kit thumbup
Cheers guys and yes bang on with the power and CR500 which I've ridden too

I think the thing I find with maico is good raw it is. Barely revs and doesn't like to be kept high up in the rev range. It's just a big vibrating punch right bang in the middle with crap brakes and flexy soft suspension

190mm front brake on the BSA?

There's a good story about that brake and the benefits of the metric system. smile

According to Roland Pike, the engineers conned management into thinking it was a small brake, suitable for the Gold Star scrambler, by going metric and describing it as 190mm rather than 7.5 inches:

About 1955 the desire developed for a better brake for our scramblers. Since the management wanted to avoid spending money, as usual, it was decided one brake would have to do for both Clubman's TT and racing Gold Stars, and scramblers. Dennis Hardwick wanted a small brake for the scramblers, Charlie Salt and I wanted a big brake for the Clubman. We compromised on a 190mm brake on Charlie’s suggestion, who told me he was banking on a belief that Hardwick would not know how big 190mm really was. As it turned out Hardwick didn’t. So we came out with this fairly large brake with wide shoes which was used for some years afterwards, although in my opinion it was not as good as the earlier cast iron drum with ribs around it. That was the best Gold Star brake. Charlie did not like it himself and he blamed Hardwick for the fact that it was too small, as he would have preferred 200mm diameter. The l90mm brake was designed by Charlie and it turned out to be rather heavy for its size.

Just had these 2 delivered from SBS.

Just need to decide which ones to keep now though.

At first the Sidi Rex were the ones I liked the most, but theres something about those TCX RT-Race Pro Air boots that's grabbing me. I've never owned any TCX boots before and they do seem like a quality piece of kit.

I don't think it should influence your decision much, but what the fk is that scribbling effect?

Thanks, I had'nt quite looked it at like that, but now you mention it i cant unsee it laugh

To be honest it was more the quality of the boot that I was drawn too rather than the design.

Have those TCX boots got a suede like material over the inside hinge to stop scratching the bike? Mine have and they very quickly wore through so now I have the plastic hinge exposed and some frayed material around it. Other than that they are a really good boot, super comfy and feel safe. Also I have worn through my toe sliders and they are very difficult to get hold of replacements. I personally don’t get on with Sidis as they never feel very plush inside.

No, the hinge is just a hard plastic.

They are very comfy straight of the box though.

That Monkey Mk1 loks good, did you buy it new or used, still has 50cc,

how did they evade the "pedals must" rule or were they built before that ?
