Got out yesterday (mostly but not quite dodging the rain) to do a back-to-back comparison between the MT10 and MT10SP. Roads were minging but the S22s give a surprising amount of grip in the wet! Enough that the MT10's natural behaviour isn't really stunted… so to speak. A few mid-corner compost heaps but it's nice to still be out and about this time of year. I then picked up an MT09 SP for a few weeks and that's also a lot of fun...

Video review of the 2 online as yet?

Be interested to see this as I took a base MT10 out a couple of weeks ago from Sycamore Yamaha , thought it is was a better bike than the previous model.

Stock suspension was a good on the roads around Rutland (better than the electronic set up on my S1000R which I find to soft or hard no matter the setting) but the brakes lacking in bite and feel Vs the BMW.

Th me base model is somewhat of a bargain in the supernaked world…

For me anyway, the SP pricing means comparisons with other supernakeds like the Tuono ,making the decision on an SP model a bit tougher.
You could feel the difference pretty immediately on the road. The SP just feels better in control of its mass – the damping just generally feels more plush, and obviously you can stiffen or soften it very easily, meaning it's both a softer and firmer road bike… unless you fancy fiddling with the standard bike's suspension on each ride out.

The bite on the SP's brakes is marginally better, but the brakes are still a weak point – I'm going to try new Brembo pads in my bike over winter because this apparently fixes the woes a fair bit.

I think either way the S1000R's brakes are going to be more impressive and it turns in more quickly than the MT10. I bought the MT10 over its rivals because it has some proper character, it feels naughty and can bimble comfortably as well as go mental. It's also by far the cheapest supernaked to insure, oddly. At least in my experience.

Birky, what gsxr do you have? I was talking to JHS racing and he said he had recently done a 600 with full system and it made 12hp peak more.

Re pop and bang, they can have that off or on as they just leave the injectors open on over run….I would go without.

Decided to treat the RGV to a valet, machine polish and ceramic coating by a local company.
Thought this would help me keep on top of keeping it clean.
I have to admit I think it looks amazing! Not bad for a 32 year old bike. All original too

Still kind of tempted with upgrading to an XSR900GP mind

Superb!

Would you mind sharing the name of the company you used?

Cheers for all the nice comments, really pleased with it!
Shame it won't get used for a few months now with how the weather is.
The company I used was MKProDetail, they're based in Milton Keynes

The subject still has to be in pretty good nick to come up like that, so good on you (and any previous owners) for keeping it in such good shape for 32 years!

Great looking thing still.

I nearly bought one new in 1991 but bought a GSXR750M instead, always regretted every time I see one in that particular paint scheme...

Sounds like a need a test ride on the SP as well.

Only just discovered your videos from your post on here , keep them up, I do enjoy your , to me, informative and real world reviews.

That is just stunning. thumbup

But then I've always loved 2 strokes!

However much you are tempted by an XSR900GP I think you'd always regret selling such a fantastic RGV.

Thanks for all this nice comments from everyone, it’s a lovely old machine and I’ve only had it a couple of years so as it’s never been restored I can only think it’s been loved and looked after it’s whole life which is nice

I’m going to have a poke round the XSR and a few other bikes at motorcycle live this year and see how I feel afterward. Might even try to get a test ride.
One issue is I’d need another £5000 after selling the RGV to get an XSR, which isn’t easy to do and not very appealing.
Just quite fancy a more usable bike.
Other option would be keep the RGV and get a cheap old CBR600F or something

Second option makes more sense, surely? Cracking of example of a cracking bike, you'd never be able to replace it later.

When you say ‘bashing out a deal" did you negotiate money off? If so, roughly how much and where I.e, options added or finance etc? Interested to know as I understand the bike margins are tight.
