Had this in for a few days, shiny bodywork but needed some properTLC underneath, took away years of grime and stubborn marks the owner hadnt managed to shift.
Love the way its bolted together, the tank is the roof of the airbox and runs without no filter, well, this one does anyway..
If the 996 is anything like my 748, the air filters are in the air tubes that run to the front of the bike Love the way its bolted together, the tank is the roof of the airbox and runs without no filter, well, this one does anyway..

As I’ve said before, my dream bike in my favourite colours!Absolutely beautiful.
Those who have them love 'em, those who sell 'em regret.
This is mine, which started out much like your's when I bought it in 2004. They're possible to modify considerably, even today.

Would you believe mine died on me the day I posted that photo?!! Second ride out.
Turns out the CDI unit is fried, so looks like a bit of an ignition overhaul is necessary to avoid it happening again. I've not had the best start to SP2 ownership! Fingers crossed she'll be back on the road again in a few weeks.
Thanks for the compliments. I’ll never sell the SP2. Had it for some 16 years now...
CDi’s usually only fail on these when there is some arcing caused by bad wiring. So trace the harness going to the CDi and you may find something amiss. If you don’t find it, the problem may again raise its ugly head, otherwise.
There’s a small inexpensive electronic part that can be replaced when a CDi fails. Look it up on the RC51 forum. Pretty sure I’ve seen it there, or maybe a google search.
Hope you manage to get it sorted soon.

Agreed. I've only just removed a steering damper that was stopping me from swinging the tank up. Now I can have a proper look at the wiring to check if anything's amiss from that perspective.CDi’s usually only fail on these when there is some arcing caused by bad wiring. Indeed you are correct on the CDI repair...As such I have the two types of transistor on their way to me as I type, ready for replacement.
Thanks, keep your fingers crossed for me.

Another outing for the furloughed/redundant/retired MCC club today.
Popped to Woburn Triumph(because we heard the cafe was open...its only open on a Thurs,Fri and Saturday ATM) but a local chippie was open , one of the lads bought his Burgman 400 , with top box so he played Deliveroo....(im still being a good boy and taking a packed lunch )
Certainly was different entering a showroom and having your temperature taken before being allowed a wander around but you cant knock it.
Dad's mighty Bantam hit just over 50 so it have been happy to get some sunshine...
Amazingly, the owners of the smaller engined bikes seemed to be enjoying their day out equally as much as the 2 lads with the 1200s..how strange...

Going through some old pic and found this..
One of my fav bikes to own and pictured here in full Malawi Mode.
Picture was taken in Malawi after covering the journey in 2 days staying over in Harare (1200kms in 1 day)
Loaded with fishing gear and other essentials she ferried me around East Africa for a coupe of years without missing a beat.
On one of the many sand rivers on the Mozambique plain.
Happy Days..
