Ok lets use mtb as an example. Ride my bike to track and some other nob choppers bike falls on mine taking a chunk out of my bike.

I have no requirement to learn my bikes limit on track. I'd rather pay someone money and use theirs. End of.
It's just a bike... it's not precious or rare. It's safer than using it on the road, and the 5VY on track is just sublime... you have to try it on track just once at least. smile I absolutely loved mine on track which is why I'm after another as a track bike at some point.

What's all that gay talk about not taking a roadbike to the track?

Nothing better to learn about your own bike than a TD in novices or inters. It also saves you overdoing it and lobbing it into the gravel.

You'll find your limits long before the bike's. Unless you're a complete ham fisted ape, that is.

If that had been my road bike I'd have went through his insurance.

I can see why people would ride to track. I done it for a year plus. But I can also see how much of a ball ache it is

It's great riding home on a sunny day after your first knee down but I've also seen the other side. Crash after 20 minutes and spending the rest of the time looking for a lift wondering how long your gonna be with no bike.

From the man who wouldn't use his blade on the track smile

If you cant afford to bin what you've brought don't do it. That's my look at it.

Maybe not to you.

I'm not really sure what the problem is. I'm not asking to use any of your bikes?

See the post above ... wink

Already booked one ... will be booking 2-3 this year in total.

TBH I've never really been able to afford to bin any of my road bikes... but I try to minimise the risk where I can. The way I look at it is you buy these bikes to enjoy them so why wrap in cotton wool? - Use them and enjoy... Graham said such a little while back and I've certainly come round to that thinking now the 'new bike' novelty has worn off! I also don't ride to track either... usually land up sharing a van so have a back up plan but that's mainly because I do Cadwell Park that is a good 2.5hrs away.

It's not the best solution... that would be decent track bike (I've no real desire to ride a st box on track) but if the option is do 2-3 track days a year on your road bike or none at all then what would you do?

Can we cease with the pro's/cons of whether to use your road bike or not? It's been done to death on here

It's a personal choice. There is no right or wrong

Period.

Indeed. I don't really see the point of the conversation.

I'll give the other guys a call today and see what I can sort.

You could always get track fairings for yours

There is no problem. Lighten up Scott... it is just an option. But there is nothing like riding your own bike on track seeing what it is capable compared to the road. I can't think of anything worse riding a track for the first time, on a bike you don't know or have ridden before... but that is just me. I'm sure others will argue otherwise. If you don't want to use the R1 then fair enough but if there is no other option at least consider it.

I could but then I'd have to ride to snetterton, then fit the fairings when I get there.

As I still don't have a van or a trailer.

Hire a van. Are you over 25?

Having only ever signed on with no limits and Knockhill track days in flabbergasted how you can fk up a track day. Why do focus events receive such bad press
I'm not really sure. The only bad thing I have to say about focused is the poor customer service away from the track days. I cancelled a track day I had with them last year giving 3 weeks notice. Whereas NL would have given credit, FE offered nothing.

The actual running of the track days I've never had a problem with though. And I think the Euro ones are better than the NL ones, due to the chrono thing where they organise you by lap times.
FE are moving towards chrono (timing via transponder) days for the majority of their UK days too. They do seem to have a lot more red flag related incidents/delays than some of the other organisers though.

To be honest, it depends which group you intend to ride in. Sometimes some of the really quick MRO boys use the day as a practice session, which can cause a few issues, as they don't always end up in the "fast" group.....

You can run a road bike with track fairings legally.

More importantly stop justifying yourself. You don't owe anyone an explanation for not taking your bike to track.

How do you get around this if you get another/new track bike?

I'm not being a fanny. You should read the last few pages and then reassess who the fanny is smile

If I do Snett mate, the likelihood is that Lesley would be doing it as well, and I can only fit 2 bikes in the new van
