Can any of you bikenerds identify this? Came back from the powder coaters yesterday...

Had it 20 years, it's been stationary since 2012 so I'm quite excited to be getting it back together....

Love that phrase!

Here's the engine all packed up ready to go to a grownup for new conrods, big end bearings, main bearings, maybe valve guides, hopefully not pistons, rebore etc. I've got a finite number of kidneys.

It's a bit grubby that - do you not have metal polish and elbow grease in your house wink

Yup - I'll give it a bosh when I get it back - first the oily bits need a fettle. Mind you - a lot of it is rough sand cast - I'm not polishing that!

The oil cooler had a leak that misted the entire engine so I must say I'm not concerned with the fasteners corroding while it waits its turn on the bench...

If you own a Laverda Jota, then we definitely need a rebuild thread,

Epic bikes, from a golden era.

Well it is and it isn't! It's a bitza, built in the '90's. Not sure why really - the bikes themselves were cheap then so it really wasn't worth the effort - and imagine trying to source the bits before the internet!

The engine is proper full fat Jota - high compression pistons and 4C cams. The frame is a mystery - it could be an early 3C that has been altered to add mounts for hydraulic brakes etc that they didn't have (going by the serial number) or it's a later replacement frame from the factory (they supplied them unstamped) that has been stamped with an early serial number and cut about a bit.

I've uncovered numerous bodges during the time I had the bike so I'm hoping the engine rebuild goes without too many issues.... A rebuild thread would run for a while - there's a lengthy waiting list for the engine work!

Love these VFR’s, used to import container loads at a time and then have the joyous task of carb service on 20 of the buggers.

Sorting Mrs Fb’s learner GS500 out for her and thought I would sort the oil leak from the filter housing. Easier to buy new filter that came with the O ring, so went to put it in and found some top level bodgery !!!

Yes, someone really did manage to wedge a cartridge filter in a paper filter housing and then do a fair few miles like that laugh

That is beautiful, would love one of these to supplement another bike(s). I need more space and money.
