You can run a road bike with track fairings legally.
[/pedant] You could get a tug under construction and use regs if you don't have indicators, but have the controls fitted.... You'd also need a brake light. [/pedant mode off....]Basically, if a light unit itself is fitted then it has to work.

[pedant]You don't need a brake light for an mot, just a speedo and horn and that's it [/pedant][double pedant] there is no such thing as a daytime mot either [/double pedant]

You're welcome.
I've done both No Limits and Focused Events days, not done MSV days. I've heard good things about MSV days though. For me, No Limits seemed slightly better than Focused Events although I have booked with FE for the end of the month so I'll see what that's like. If you're doing a Euro event then the general feeling is that NL are better (although, frustratingly, FE do some great tracks on some decent (more weekend) dates).
For your first few, I doubt you'll go far wrong with any of those 3 (with NL and MSV generally getting favoured slightly - on here at least)

It appears now that as long as you're insured and have a horn, road legal tyres and a reg plate, you can run a racebike on the road...

See the post above ...
Already booked one ... will be booking 2-3 this year in total.
TBH I've never really been able to afford to bin any of my road bikes... but I try to minimise the risk where I can. The way I look at it is you buy these bikes to enjoy them so why wrap in cotton wool? - Use them and enjoy... Graham said such a little while back and I've certainly come round to that thinking now the 'new bike' novelty has worn off! I also don't ride to track either... usually land up sharing a van so have a back up plan but that's mainly because I do Cadwell Park that is a good 2.5hrs away.
It's not the best solution... that would be decent track bike (I've no real desire to ride a st box on track) but if the option is do 2-3 track days a year on your road bike or none at all then what would you do?

I stand corrected. I have had a ticket under the indicators/switches bit back in 1999. The rules may have changed since.

That's your MOT not the construction regulations, they aren't the same thing? I thought you were were taking about the former as I was under the impression you can pass an MOT with something illegal based on the construction regs and vice versa.http://www.ukmot.com/MOT_questions.asp?MOT_Questio...

But yes, I have had no lights with switchgear and it was fine. The only annoying thing is you must deactivate everything or nothing. Every MOT inspector I spoke to permitted the brake light though. Which is sensible.

HOLD THE PHONE - I can get a "daytime" mot for my track bike without a rear light.
This I have to do. Only lovely calm days I take the street.
on windy days I wish I had the Daytona.
I'm pretty confident you don't legally need a new MOT. For the same reason as changing other components doesn't require a fresh MOT. This I have to do. Only lovely calm days I take the street.
on windy days I wish I had the Daytona.
It's usually at the request of insurers when you declare the modification, rather than legislation.

You can indeed. Like jazoli said, it isn't a 'daytime' mot. Just a variation on the normal mot test that means you don't have to have lights of indicators or even mirrors fitted (I think). You need a horn though. This I have to do. Only lovely calm days I take the street.

I just called it a daytime one as that is what it is commonly known as.
Letting a brake light slide on the mot is kind of sensible though.

ill come to cadwell for one of the days if you guys go there. Even though i thought it was ste. i think i was just in the wrong group so want to try it again. the track was generally awesome if i was on my own but with a whole field of rolling chicanes and it being so narrow i felt so frustrated and annoyed all day.
