I don't understand the amusement.
That in 1946, 1931 bikes really weren't that old

Although if it was for Pre 1900 bikes it would have been a very small club laugh
1931 bikes also weren't allowed in! I'd be interested to know why they chose 31/12/30 as the cut off. The VMCC website doesn't really say apart from mentioning "pioneer" machines a few times. Were controls pretty much standardised in 1931? That was one of the standout things for me at the Banbury Run, the differences in controls layouts etc. I got to thinking i might have promoted brand loyalty in the early days, as if you bought a machine from a different manufacturer you'd almost have to learn to ride again!

Are the Beta and Sherco both 300s,if so,how does 4t power compare to 2t?
The Beta is a 300 2T, so pretty much the same as my KTM 300 XC-W, lots of low down torque in a very light bike.

The Yamaha (230) and Sherco (300) are both 4T. The Sherco is OK on the trails, but I feel like it would do better in a more open environment. It's a bit harder to get around the technical stuff, hence my buddy relies on the rekluse clutch a bit, and it also used to overheat a lot so he had a fan fitted which seems to have cured it. It's a great bike, but more of a desert racer.

I think Triumph finally nailed the headlights with that Speed Triple.

Great looking bike.

Nice pics. I’m currently considering a new 1250 rs. Would be interested on your experience, thoughts, etc with your 1200rs model. Test rode the RS and the GS last week, can understand why people buy the GS but for me the RS seems a better option. thumbup

If you think the RS is the better option for you then it is; I don't see the down sides: I have no intention of going off road, it's a bit lighter, carries its weight even lower and the ergonomics are excellent.

We've had it 2.5 months covering just under 3k miles including 1.1k two-up last week, so we're already 50% more than the previous owner was covering a year. We were in the saddle for 9 hours last Monday and got up and did 4.5 hours again the following day, so it's comfy. I think the tank is a bit smaller than the GS but I suspect it's a bit more economical and get a consistent 200+ miles out of a tank so it was perfect for exploring the north west of Scotland. With the weight so low the bike keeps its balance even when loaded up with luggage and two-up, although I've found that the centre stand will touch down before the pegs when fully loaded, so that calmed me down a bit last week.

I haven't ridden a GS, looked at them when we were buying this: I guess there's a bit more space, but the RS is roomy and comfy. The 1200 has a wide spread of torque but no rush at the top end which I believe the 1250 has; to be honest that doesn't bother me, solo I find myself using the torque to pull me out of the corners. The LED lights would be nice but I decided against spending more for the low spec 1250 the budget allowed and am glad of it as ours is a Sport SE so has all the bells and whistles I would have gone without and now really appreciate such as the ESA, cruise control and TPMS.

Bought a mid 90s MX bike a few months back, had to get it 'race' ready

Went on a 2 day private hire and got a couple videos

Drone one here >>> https://youtu.be/T1tCMO4q5Wg

Never had anything like that done before, thought it was pretty cool although they had to be clever with the recording as the drone cant go that fast

The ride is here >>> https://youtu.be/EsAdDsn4ir8

Skip to 2.20 where I get passed by a VERY fast KTM500 2 stroke & equally talented rider (I know him well). I tried but both the 250 and my talent was not upto scratch!

Thanks for that, very useful. Sounds like you made a good choice. Enjoy your holiday thumbup

Got this loaner for a few days whilst the 'Busa is in for repair. My 1st bike was GSXR750 of the same vintage back in the day which I thought was awesome at the time, so I'm hoping the old adage of visiting your heroes isn't true in this case.

First time been able to get a run out with a good friend of mine. Brought his 1995 Thundercat out for a run. Gave me a chance to burn off some of the excess sealant on the new exhaust on my Bandit 1200S.
