What helmet - again
Discussion
want to buy a new helmet, I have a Caberg (cant remember the model) but it is a few years old but I didnt use for a while.
Would like a flip front, good ventilation, I want something that is stable in the wind. Would like an integral sunvisor.
Shoei (not sure of model Neotech I think) pricy but not an issue if it fits the bill, not sure what / how the pinlock system works
I like AGV but they dont seem what they once were
Any thoughts / suggestions
Thanks

I like my Shark Evoline 3, its my usual preference and the most practical helmet i own. Its the only flip up I know thats homologated in both open and full face modes
That looks to tick all of the boxes, like the way the cnhin bar sits at the back in open faceShape didnt change between series 2 and 3 and not much difference in the real world, minor tweaks, you can often see the "old" mode discounted at 1/2 price
Schuberth C3 or C3 Pro.
Expensive but really good quality. Very low noise levels so are the best at not damaging your hearing.
Good ventilation, Pinlock included and integral sun visor. Option of integral Bluetooth if you're feel very rich!
One of the best things about the Schuberths is that the padding doesn't "give" with use so if it fits you snuggly in the shop then it'll fit you just as snuggly 3 years/20k miles later.

I've just bought a C3 Pro after owning a Caberg for a while and the difference in comfort is night and day, should be really for the price difference mind. One thing I was really surprised about is that I found it's not as quiet as I thought it would be, it's still bloody noisy if you're on a bike at motorway speeds for 2hrs plus. For me, this was partly due to the way my MRA screen was set up but even after adjusting that it's still more noisier than I thought it would be. More likely to be a case of expectation management though. Pinlock is gleaming, first time I've had it and can't imagine life without it now. Ventilation is top notch, really happy with it. Integral sun visor is also much better quality than the Caberg, seems to have more optical qualities if that makes sense.
I also bought the integral Bluetooth thingy as well. Upsides are phone calls, sat nav in your lugs, music and Siri on tap but downsides are the speakers are truly st, I swapped mine out for for some Koss headphones speakers and although they're better, you still lose sound quality over a certain speed due to helmet noise. I tried a long ride with just music and it ended up irritating the piss out of me as it was just competing with the wind noise and I ended up wishing I'd worn some ear plugs instead which makes hearing sat nav difficult. Siri won't work consistently work above 50ish mph. You can work around this of course but to be honest, I could probably have saved myself nearly £400 and not bothered but it has its uses. If I was going to do it again, I'd still rip the speakers out but wire in some custom noise cancelling in-ear plugs instead.

You need to try it and find out what fits your head. Some helmets that others rave about don't fit my head and vice versa.
I've got a Nolan N104 which is flip and has internal sun visor. Compared to a lot of other helmets, the opening at the front is slightly bigger and so the peripheral vision is better.

That's a good point, I'd forgotten about the peripheral vision. With the C3 I've found that I have to turn my skull more forcefully for the lifesaver and given that I'm not an owl, this can leave me feeling a little worried that I've got a blind spot. No dramas so far but worth considering all the same.

It does make a big difference. I tried on another flip front helmet (can't remember which one) and the opening was definitely smaller and the peripheral vision was worse. Nolan made the opening bigger when they updated the N103 to the N104 and that was one of their selling points. I ordered both the Shoei Neotec and the Schuberth C3 in various sizes from sportsbikeshop.co.uk, decided on the Shoei in matt black, and sent the rest back using their free returns policy. The Shoei was a better fit for me, and I found the chin strap on the C3 uncomfortable. I also bought a pinlock for it which works a treat.
Having a flip front is great for when your at the petrol station, calling into a shop or stopping at the burger van for a coffee. I also find it useful when I arrive home as I can flip the front up to give good visibility for getting into my pockets, removing my gloves and getting onto my house without having to take the helmet off and carry it. The integral sun visor is also a godsend. I love my Shoei Neotec.
