Suzuki 500 2 stroke Cafe Racer
Discussion
I have been working on the wiring... As I didn't want to use an ignition switch, I have used one of the cheap (£4) 12V remote control relays off Ebay. As this has a learning mode, I have also been able to integrate it with the alarm system. So now with one remote fob, I am able to turn the bike on and off, and set the alarm. it works a treat! I have hidden an over-ride switch just in case though!
the remote works two relays as the Suzuki system switches the power on on one circuit, and disconnects another circuit for the ignition. In fact the handlebar kill switch confused me as on was off, and vice versa.. I spoke to the original owner and he confirmed he had swapped the handlebar switch 30 years ago! It would have annoyed me to have on and off the wrong way, so I milled the engraving off and filled the resulting depression with some paint!
I also had to make a new twist grip as the one with the bike was incorrect.
The curly bit of wire is the antenna for the remote.

Awesome build. Love a 2 stroke.
Can we have a video please?
Soon as I get back off holiday i will post one up! It does sound nice, but i did have to put some packing in the expansion boxes as it was so loud! Can we have a video please?
Looks like i will have to replace the CDI stator coil as its out of tollerance, and its hard to start. I have ordered one, should be there for when i get home....
Then its run it around for a while... And start the next project!
Progress has been slow for the last few weeks... I have been on holiday where i got the dreaded flu.... Its knocked me sideways! I did spend a couple of hours in the garage yesterday fitting the new ignition colils in the generator. It was harder to start than i liked, new coils fittted and it starts MUCH easier.
I have also been designing a folding footrest in my head, as its difficult to kick start with the solid one in the way...
Plus i would like to re design the side stand, as it has a tendancy to roll off it on anything other than level ground.... Anyoone eles find that? My V ROD side stand has a device to stop that so i may make somthing simmilar. Bike should be ready for the start of spring here....
Will post a few more pictures when i feel a bit better!

The tinkering never stops eh?
End result looks fantastic, lovely job.
Absolutely right... its been said many times that this sort of build is never finished! Almost there now though and the plan is to run it for a few months and then start the next build, which will be a Ducati... Not sure when but I guess this one will eventually be for sale.End result looks fantastic, lovely job.
Well it passed its MOT ok... Boy its uncomfortable though! I have had to adjust the rear sets as it was difficult to change gear as it was to low for my foot. I guess it was never going to be comfortable, I have another bike for comfort!
At the MOT station I noticed that one of the oil lines to the cylinder on the left was full of bubbles, which needed further investigation. Turns out the one way valve on that pipe was defective, the ball was wedged in the spring. easy to sort and all is well. No harm done as I had made sure I had mixed some 2 stroke oil in the fuel for an easy life in the first few miles.
It feels really light compared to my V-Rod! Its good to ride a 2 stroke again, takes me right back to my youth, the feel, the smoke, the smell and the sound!

Well after riding the Suzy for a couple of hundred mile I decided it was not for me... It got a lot of attention, but I just didn't enjoy riding it... It sold quickly and easily on Ebay though and has now gone to its new owner.
So the search is on for the next project bike to build, but this time it will be more practical, and upright!
Its going to be based on a Ducati Multistrada so the search is on for a bike!
