How bad can cheap intercoms be?

Looking at buying some of these.
There doesn't seem to be much middle ground - it's either £50 odd quid for a set of the cheapie specials as above, or £200+ for Interphone / Sena / Scala expensiveness. Nothing for £100-150. I'm looking for a pair, as I want to be able to swear at my mate and criticise his riding.
Being tight, the £50 ones look OK, as long as they're usable. Anyone else got any success / horror stories with them, or ones they'd recommend?

Just tried them out with a mate and they seem great - easy to fit, set up and good, clear reception. We'll see how they last.
