I used to watch OCC religiously, but found it got to be more like an assembly show. I used to like seeing how they made all the bespoke bits!
Same as. Not fussed about it now, they've become a bit of a joke.
Nub and Rick very talented.

I do like watching Gas Monkey, bunch of crazy bds, but doing some nice builds.

Used to watch OCC, but got a bit fed up with it when there was more drama then actual bike building.
They have done some great builds, most of it was Paul Jr though.

Interesting that PHers seem to side with Paul Jr. in the OCC debacle.

Personally, he strikes me as the worst sort of petulant offspring you could ask for. His father built the company and was obviously pretty shrewd once the whole OCC bandwagon started rolling. Jr. just soaked up the fame and then relied on it to get enough freebies to set him up when he decided he could do it 'better'.

Whilst Jr's designs are the more OTT, he's a completely one-trick pony. He's not a designer per c'est (then again, neither is Jason - please can I smack you in the face with a spade - Pohl or whatever his name is). Paul just looks at the corporate logo and sticks it to the bike wherever he can, perhaps with a web or two. Not exactly original. Additionally, as he can't draw, he totally relies on Vinnie and the other chap (whose name escapes me) to come up with the goods, whilst he takes the credit.

Sr. is no saint and obviously has a lot of demons in his closet from drugs and booze. But, it's him who put Jr. where he is (and don't get me started on the waste of colossal space that is Mikey). He's certainly mellowed in recent years as age, health and the impact of the economy have taken their toll on the business.

Ultimately though, it's telly and they're both very good at playing it for every cent. I suppose we're the ones still watching after all wink

yeah i remember that.... did anyone watch the build off special with jessie james, pjd and occ?

my opinions from it:
- junior is a decent builder. just wish he would do theme bikes all the time...
- senior is passed it. occ arent much without junior...
- jessie james an arrogant, rude, pretentious, squeeky voiced prick. he makes nice bikes tho.
Yeah, Jessie James is a bit of a knob, but his engineering is streaks ahead of what the other two do which is mainly take a load of parts made by others, bolt them together add a st paint job and some spikes to potentially impale yourself on.

They're both knobs, I think neither of them realise they need the other to exist.

I think its the Discovery channel that put them both where they are!!

Lets be honest its not a business really built on talent or innovation as they are literally 1000's of more talented builders out there, the TV money allowed them to promote their business and promote MANY others without the usual business pressures ie the need to make money

How many other pro bike builders build "theme" bikes just for the hell of it??

The fact is they have made a more money selling t shirts than they ever have selling bikes and whilst no doubt the recession and other things have impacted OCC it shouldnt be underestimated how much damage the father/son split has done to the brand.

Personally i have more time for Rick and Vinnie than any of the Teutals but there is no doubt Snr is a c*ck of the highest order and his kids are what he made them

Not really a fan of this sort of American horse sheet.
Staggered though to see that anybody could think a business like that could sustain borrowing of that size.
Sign of the times about how "we've got where we are" in World economic terms if you ask me.

Didn't nub quit because of the constant OCC deadlines?
As I understand it, he quit because OCC were using his material to promote OCC but without paying him for it, but I could be wrong.
