Ducati 1098s tricolore
Discussion
I am in desperate need of a super bike for the occasional Sunday blast and track day and remember reading about this edition when it was first launched. Can anyone here shed some light on ownership experience?
Also what was supplied with these bikes from new?
So far I have:
Termo exhaust
Sports ecu unit (is this separate?)
A cd and USB for data logging
Is there a unique paddock stand and cover for this as well?

As Mr Orange says - had the long Termis and first Superbike ECUs. The datalogging CD and dongle etc came with my 2008 1098S anyway. Most 1098S you find have the ECU and either short or long termis by now and they are sourced fairly cheaply these days if you don't have them.
So essentially a big premium for a gold frame, gold wheels and a different paint scheme.
I like them a lot and found a perfect one with 1600 miles on the clock before buying my 1098S, but it was within about £2k of 1098R prices at the time and they are truly special. At a good 40% premium on equivalent 1098Ss it's just too much for what it is IMHO.
If you have one though and don't care about the value or proximity to 1098R prices, you have a rare and exceptionally pretty bike that's a hoot to ride.

Here's mine.
Both comments above spot on in my view, although I think the gap to 1098R prices has widened in recent times. Rightly so, the 1098R is a much more special machine, as goes for all Ducati R models. Nevertheless, the 1098S Tricolore stands as a limited numbers model, albeit not numbered, and is an exceptionally pretty and desirable bike (well, in my opinion anyway !)
To re-iterate, key differences to the 'standard' 1098S are the Termis/ECU, DDA Ducati Data Aquisition system, gold frame, tri-Colour paint scheme, gold Marchesinis and carbon fibre huggers. As far as I know, 1013 were produced worldwide with around 300 coming to the UK.

The numbers around pretty low and they definitely stand out from the crowd. Pic whoring my 1098S...

That looks lovely - it's a shame they didn't come with an aluminium tank or something to seperate it a little from the 1098S, or at least numbering/limited run. I thought the 1098S was pretty enough as is, what with the red frame and prettiest Marchesinis, albeing in black rather than the gold on the Tricolore and R. If the prices had been a bit closer to the 1098S, I'd have definitely held out for one.

Here's a 1098R off the duke forum where a guy had a spare tank and did something similar: Can't make my mind up whether I like it or not, it is definitely interesting.
great pics
BN you mean this one??

Saw that one on there - bit too much aluminium on show for my taste, but that's the general idea. 1198SP had best ally tank scheme. Can't make my mind up whether I like it or not, it is definitely interesting.

To the OP - I'm quite sure this was the one I looked at, at the start of the year at another Ducati main dealers as I recognise the dodgy clutch cover and the rest of the details are the same. It was on Sale or Return with the original first owner at the time, but we couldn't do a deal on price.

Who in their right mind would buy that over a 1098R? I got mine for a lot less than that cost. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2007-07-Ducati-1098S-Tr...

Fair point, but comparing like for like, a 1 owner 1800 mile 1098R isn't going to be at that level anymore (sadly)In fact not many 1098Rs at all to be found sub £15k now, and for a buyer for whom provenance i.e ownership, mileage and originality, counts above all else, that particular bike may well be more desirable than a multi owner R with much higher mileage, if indeed one can still be found for a similar price
A case of you pays your money, but I don't think such a buyer would necessarily not be in their right mind
Great photos! Nice to hear everyone is very positive about the model only helping me to make my decision. For me the colour palette for the tricolore makes the bike very unique, especially since it is one of the last pre-Audi era bikes, and while there are no real advantages over the 1098s I for one am willing to pay over the odds to get my hands on this edition.
So to confirm there wasn't an additional exhaust/slip on supplied with the bike or a unique cover etc?
I too love the 999 (one of the minority I know) but the high maintenance puts me off and it would be a shame not to use it extensively as it is surely such a great machine.

Yes I saw this one! So many 1098s have this modification and I couldn't work out what was standard! I am looking for a completely original example https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2007-07-Ducati-1098S-Tr...
