I ran a 2001 for 16 years. Do everything, great to thrash. Light to chuck around and the engine just has enough.
Upgrade the springs and fork oil. Change the rear shock if you can afford it. The brakes are ok but feel crap. I changed mine for 4 pot nissins off a CBR6 with fantastic results.

I had one for a couple of years, it came to me cheap via my father in law and I didn't use it that much. They're good but they're not a comfortable as you'd expect for a bike of this type, you sit on it and not in it, and I prefer 4 pot bikes. It wasn't as good a bike as the Hornet 600 which I had before it, in all respects.

Meh! Horses for courses; had a Hornet and rode it around flat out everywhere with a big chip on my shoulder, SV650 is a much nicer thing at all speeds from learning to cruising about to putting in lap times that would shame the riding Gods on this here forum.Possibly on the search for a SV650 at the moment!
Curvy ones are comfier than early injected ones.

I’ve got one of the new ones. It’s superb. I prefer it in all respects to a 765 rs street triple I had immediately before.
Interesting, I’ve been toying with the idea of a 765 as I’m after a naked. I learned on an SV and I loved riding it, a really easy bike to ride in all circumstances but a street triple would be more “special” I’d expect. What was so bad about it?Great bikes, massively underrated.
Bullet-proof engine as long as you change the oil every now and then, front plug catches a bit of crud and water so worth spraying with silicon if you are riding in all weathers, suspension is a bit soft but easily upgraded.
Stick a decent end-can on and they sound great too.

Oh Christ don’t be saying that, I’m wanting to do the opposite.Lindun said:
I have to say that’s like someone saying. I prefer my Ford Focus 1.6LX in every way to the BMW 440i I had immediately before. You may well like it better, but it’s a completely different vehicle.
It isn’t though. The Sv and rs will both do 0-60 in the 3 second bracket and standing 1/4 in 11 / 12s.On the type of roads I choose to ride on now (avoiding the speed nazis as much as possible) the Sv is more rewarding to go fast on and for me easier too.
The rs was just way too hardcore for me. Even on a soft setting it will knock the wind out of you and vibrate your eyeballs so much you can’t see where you are going on a typical B road.
I also hated the gearshift and clutch on the rs which are important factors for me in a bike.

Focus 1.6 is a bit unfair. Mondeo 2.0 vs 440i is more equivalent, and would be a perfectly valid claim considering a Mondeo handles better than an F3x
Hardly. One’s a fairly highly strung very sporty naked, the other a commuter bike with half the horsepower. The point I’m making is they’re barely comparable. As for the comment about the BMW not handling, whatever.
SV puts out 75hp, the ST 100hp. The SV handles brilliantly, I’d imagine the ST also handles well.
I drive a 340i, it handles fine but it’s not the ultimate sports experience that the marketing department want you to believe. The engine is a masterpiece though and I do love the car. Absolutely more desirable than a Mondeo and would never swap, but the Ford has a well deserved reputation for its handling

The 765 street triple RS puts out 121 bhp, ok, maybe not double but near enough 66% more. I’ve driven 3/4 series coupes for over a decade the handling is pretty decent compared to a family saloon.

What was so bad about it?The SV was still a great bike, but wallowy in the corners (which can be fixed if you are willing to spend on it) the motor is a peach if you are happy with the power it makes though.
