looking at getting back into having a bike again, would like to travel down to south of france on it, I have seen a rf 900 rt p reg at dealer for £1395 ono.

it does look nice, but before i travel to view has anybody any comments good or bad about this bike, or any other suggestions for a £1400 bike.

thanks

Hi Mate

I have recently bought a RF600r. If you like the looks (and it seems that none bikers like it more than bikers) I would say go for it if its in good nick!

Mines reasonably big for a 600 with good protection for the wind from the fairing. I believe the 900 is of similar dimensions.

Nice planted feel from the front wheel, and thats saying something concidering I am not the most confident rider in the bends.

Mines A 1994 and although there is a few surveys saying the finnish is average, mine is in good nick and totally original.

Hope this helps!

K

i had a rf600 as my first bike, it was a 1994 so getting on a bit. only part-ex'd it last october. mine wasnt the best example with twisted forks/frame (never did work it out). was a solid bike that lasted well though.

i rode mine in everything from snow to summer & did 20k in 8months without too many faults. id say they're a good bike if not the most nimble.

My father had a RF900 from new in 97 so around p plate, he loved the bike. Very quick, very comfortable, did him well for travelling to south of France a couple of times.

Some people like them, some don't - mostly due to a strange riding position with a long reach to the bars.

Very much built to a budget, so finish and suspension 'goes off' quite quickly.

Considered a bit of a bargain Fireblade alternative back in the day, but they're not significantly cheaper than a Foxeye blade these days - the 'blade is more comfortable and much better finished - well worth the extra few hundred quid one will cost you.

Other alternatives would be the Yamaha Thundercat. Great bikes, awesome brakes and engine, more biased towards 'tour' than 'sport', or the Honda VFRs - a very late, last model 750 is only worth around £1500, with non-VTEC 800s coming in at not a lot more.

I had a ride on one a few years back and was surprised at how good it was, I even looked at buying one myself last year but in the end i went for the ZX9R. Enjoy it, they are a very good bike and much better than most people thought, just check the shock isn't shot.
