I'm toying with the idea of a 125 for a few months to see if I get into biking and then full test end of summer. I want a bike that will be easy to sell on and not devalue hugely after a short time either if I get a bigger bike or just don't use it. Views on the CG125? CBR125 or yamaha maybe, but they look a bit too much like a dressed up 125 trying to look like a big sports bike. Other suggestions?
Yamaha DT125R, 2 stroke off roader road bike, much more fun than a 4 stroke, reliable too if its been left alone.
Couple of good ones on ebay at the minute, it would be where my money would be going, I had one 20 years ago and loved it to bits

You won't go wrong with a CG; that's why so many bike schools use them.
Bulletproof, cheap to service, cheap to run/tax/insure, easy to sell on, easy to fix if you drop it, good residuals.
Don't be tempted by a Chinese imitation; they are completely the opposite.
Yes but......they are dull dull and ever so slightly dull, buy a 2 smoke, they are much less dull Bulletproof, cheap to service, cheap to run/tax/insure, easy to sell on, easy to fix if you drop it, good residuals.

ETA Sure about the CG being ohv, and not ohc ?
As for 2smokes- if the bloke isn't doing his full test to ride it then he is still limited to about 15bhp which a CG can put out. Tweaked 2smokes will be illegal as his licence won't cover it.

I second that buy a decent dt 125 and come to sell it you will get back the same or more than you paid for it. You can have some great fun green laning and use it to commute. Cheap and easy to maintain just make sure you use the best 2 stroke oil you can buy.Couple of good ones on ebay at the minute, it would be where my money would be going, I had one 20 years ago and loved it to bits

Sorry, looks like I was mistaken about the CG125. I was going off the aged CB125S that is lurking at the back off the garage awaiting a new piston (3 yrs on ).
For fun go for the smoker , for economy and reliability go for the 4 stroke.
And if you are a " Fair ish height" the leggier " 2stroke will be far more comfortable.
