As per the thread title, I fancy a trip to the continent in the summer but my usual crowd aren't doing anything this year.

Is anyone going in a group that welcomes a tag-along? The Old Gits trip looks good but sadly the times don't work for me.

I'm on a Sprint ST.

I fancy a trip to southern Germany, supposedly the area around the Nurburg has some decent roads.

I am going to the Nurburgring in August I think, not sure of the crowd yet. Welcome to tag along
Cheers, please pm me. I've got the family holiday in August but it may work.

It may end up being a solo trip. I'm going to do a Wales trip in the next couple of weeks to see how it goes.

I'm leaving first thing on Sunday from South Bucks, staying one night in North Wales and then heading back Monday.

It may turn out to be a bit ambitious, but I'm going to maximise the day light hours, so I have about 12 hours to do a 6 hour journey so lots of stops if needed.

The route back I haven't mapped but will be A49/A44 to Oxford

Day 1...248 miles/6h17min as per Google

If it helps, I did a 2 day trip very similar to that last year, my route/pictures etc are in this thread https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t...

I went from Kent so a little further round the M25/M20 from you.
Thanks a good write up, I won't be going as far North/West as you went. The motorway slog around the M25 is awful, I have to do that for any Euro trips.

The A44 from Aberystwyth is stunning!

Also if time allows then get on the B4518 between Llanidloes and Machynlleth, absolutely stunning bit of road!

I'm thinking of a 2.5 week euro jaunt in August on my lonesome as my friends are being a bit non-committal if you are interested?
hmm, maybe I should have made this trip three days. I'll see if I get a pass.

Could be interested in the outward leg of a Euro trip, would need to be July though.

What did you think to it?

I saw a couple of pics, looks like you did well with the weather!
Yes, totally lucked out with the weather. The first road out from Machynlleth to join the B4518 was superb, rolling twisties through green hills with drop offs either side. I'm going to arrange a longer trip later in the summer.

So another year passes and I'm planning another weekend in the land of our fathers. This time I'm doing the southern half...any recommendations? I was thinking of doing the A40 to Fishguard and then north on the A487.

I'd recommend cutting out the A40 from around the Lea/Pontshill area, following the A4136 down to Monmouth, its a nice bit of road with some nice views smile

Can't give much more advice beyond that, but I do the above route most days smile
Yep I did that route last year and it was good. Highly likely I'll do it this time too.

So, was planning on going this weekend...Sunday looks biblical in Wales, I need encouragement, do I go and try to head east as soon as possible on Sunday or bin it and stay in bed
