Pillions & no licence

I passed my DAS recently and am still awaiting the return of my licence from DVLA. For some reason I have it in my head that I can't carry a pillion until I get my licence back. Is this crap?

Yesterday I spoke to the ex-police advanced motorcycle instructor who got me through my DAS. He says he's not heard of that restriction, so thought there would be no problem.
After all, you can get rid of the radio gear, bib and L-plates as soon as you walk out of the test centre...
