Didn't think I'd be able to this year. Turns out I can, so on the off chance looked at Steampackets website last week, and got the exact crossing I wanted for race week!

Camping at Onchan again for 2 days, then the Mrs is flying over with work (Monster Energy) and I get to share her hotel!....oh and VIP perks too. :-)

Fingers crossed for some nice weather again.

I'm going with 4 others. My first time there. And first time for 2 others. Saying in a hotel. Only issues I had was the booking and dates when first out meant we have a 2:20Am crossing. better on the way back in the afternoon.
So making our way up to the ferry on the afternoon before. taking the back roads and enjoying the 200 mile trip up instead of all motorway. So going to be a good week I hope.

As I have no option with luggage i'm doing as PH'ers suggested posting a box of clothes to the hotel which they said is fine and taking a backpack for essentials on the way up.

Can't wait
You'll have a blast. You'll probably want to go every year now.

Just a word to the wise, there was a fair bit more crime last year than in previous years. Scrotes nicking stuff out of tents etc and a couple of BMW owners I know had their clocks nicked off their bikes.

Combination of a VERY busy police force, and lots of people in tents I guess.

Be careful.

I'll be there, 2nd time for me, going from 30th to 12th. We'll go in the camper and take the bike along, staying in Union Mills again. I can't wait!
Good campsite that. We stayed there a few years ago. I remember walking down to the church to watch, and standing on the bus stop to get a better view.

I can't agree more we used to go twice a year TT and MGP fell in love with the island so we through the towel in to the UK and moved over and bought a house on the circuit, best thing we never did. We are praying for some good weather.
It's a fabulous place, I'm going to do more exploring this year, would like to see as much of the island as possible.

From those who know/live on the island, what's the best time to try and get up and over the mountain? Not that you would ever tell a non-local, I guess...! Early morning? Late evening? Middle of the night?

When we rode over a couple of years ago it was almost constantly shut when the racing wasn't on, and during the brief moments that it would open again you would get some proper scary riding and driving from certain individuals, particularly when they had all been waiting in Ramsey for a couple of hours for plod to reopen the road.

Camping next to Nobles hospital was particularly sobering given that the medical helicopters barely stopped going in and out even when there was no racing on.
Go easy on the beer the night before and get up at 4.30/5. It's daylight, it's empty, and you can have a good couple of runs with only one or two other bikes for company, that's always my plan and seems to work.

Very sad but for some these events have become nothing more than a massive bike showroom with easy pickings. Amazing how they can nick it right under peoples noses without anyone seeing a thing.
I've been told that some lads were staying in a hotel near the docks, and were told not to leave their bikes in the car park as it wasn't safe. They moved them and when they came back to the hotel there was already a scooter, two up doing laps of the car park looking for the bikes that they'd just moved. Must have got a phone call from someone who spotted them being parked up.

I'm heading over for the first time on Sunday, staying for nine nights - only ferries we could get last May!

I was after advice from experienced old hands on a few good spots to watch and also some logistical advice in terms of rough times of when the course closes and how hard it is to get out to the best spectating locations. I'm taking my 911 but my wife and our friend will be on their motorcycles. I can take three of us in the car but will it just be a total liability? We're staying inside the circuit at Strang so reckon the Railway Inn / Union Mills is fair game for a day. We can head out there on foot which will be good.
Road Closures are here: https://www.gov.im/media/1361541/tt-road-closures-...

Good places to watch are: Bray Hill, Conker Trees, Gooseneck, Ballaugh Bridge, Creg Ny Baa, Rhencullen - Plus many many others that I've still not been to!

You can drive to most viewing areas, but get there early to park and get a viewing spot, and be prepared to be stranded until the roads open again. There are loads of foot paths, so you can drive as close as possible, ditch the car and walk to where you want to be. Check to make sure where you're going has facilities, and if not go armed with food and drink. :-)

This is old, but a good guide of where to park/access etc for each of the courses main areas. https://www.iomtt.com/press/schedule.pdf

Also seems like some horrific clerk of coursing as rumours are riders were returning to paddock wrong way on track and met course car head on at Ballacrye. Wtf. One rider apparently in collision as a result.
This is awful if true. I'm amazed to be honest. It's normally so well run. Surely if it was ever necessary to have vehicles on the circuit going both ways, normal road rules should apply with people driving on the left.

Yeah Jodie Kidd, not the best. I know she's a petrol head but not even sure she's ridden a bike.

Anyway, prepared to give them a chance. After a year or two they'll have better rapport with the riders etc.

Typical responses from the kind of berks that think a race that kills countless people, not just racers every few years is perfectly fine.

I guess I should have expected as much.

Isnt riding or racing a bike dangerous enough!
Live and let live buddy.. If you don't like it, cut it out your life...and certainly don't reply to threads about it, what's the point.
