Ariel P40 Electric hipercar

You kinda just know that the "designer" of this thing grew up screwing tat from the Ripspeed catalogues to their corsas, before graduating to a wrapped Range Rover Sport with Kahn "improvements" attached. If someone rocked up with something looking this bad to a 24hrs of Lemons event, it'd still be classed as a little too stupid.
I'd love to see it in a proper wind tunnel, to see how much drag all that ineffective crap is generating
Are the previous posters seriously suggesting that all that aero isnt functional? It looks like an electric pikes peak car because it is built the same way, as light as it can possibly be with 1200hp, something has to push that much shove into the tarmac and I guess more wings than ryanair is the only way to achieve that, I dont think for a second that any of them are non function or out of a RIP speed catalogue.
When they are out in the wild I'm sure plenty will have options that make it a bit better looking, but look at any car in this weight and power bracket and it needs extreme down force to make any use of all that power and torque.

(we) worked through plenty of other more conventional-looking, conventionally aerodynamic low-drag designs but rejected them all because they weren’t daring enough.
( source )Sounds to me like it was a deliberate choice to make it look like that.
The good news is, thousands of people think it looks fantastic. The bad news is, they're almost all 12 year old kids who are some way off possessing a driving licence, let alone a spare million quid for a "Hipercar".

I love Ariel’s, the nomad is just brilliant. I cannot get over how bad this one looks, there isn’t one redeeming angle or panel.
It makes you wonder if they got a EV grant and just went on a bender with it. Because it's from this company you kind of believe it works as a product but it's very difficult to come to terms with grown men having come up with something that looks like that while sober.

I suppose batman might drive it.

The aerodynamics look a trifle different. I think the middle bit, the sawn off VW beetle, might produce a bit of lift.
I google this car from time to time to see if there is any news. What triggered this is The Intercooler podcast failing to mention it in "Cars with interesting engines". So, I happened across the Top Gear article on it where the wiglets at front and rear are designed to manage airflow around the wing mirrors. If this is so much work, and draggy, why not just have cameras? It works well in the MC20 and at night a camera can see better than the eye.
