Absolutely gutted!!!

I’ve had my Griff 2 weeks, the first week it spent at peninsula getting serviced, I then brought it home, I was playing with the heater valve in the foot well whilst it was parked in our car park at home, I left the door open and walked round the other side when my neighbour reversed round the corner straight into the open door, the door was ripped off completely!
To make matters worse the neighbour is uninsured, so know if he is deemed unable to pay I’ll lose all my NCD.
The car is now with Webb’s, but they said they wouldn’t have a door for 4-6 weeks, so I’ll be without my new car for about 2 months!!!

Tried the police, they weren’t interested, they said if he’s given his address let the insurance deal with it, I can see I’ll be having fun trying to get the money and keep my NCD!
Can’t believe they wouldn’t do anything, he’s still driving the car and I presume he’s still uninsured!
Fortunately I still have the S as we were off to France at the weekend with the mid Kent group, so didn’t miss my trip, was so looking forward to doing it in the Griff though!

Take it higher up the chain!! The grief they'd give you if they stopped you and you had no insurance yet they can't be arsed to deal with a scrote like this. Ah well, must be cos he wasn't speeding! T@ssers!

If he is uninsured his car is probably not MOT ed or Taxed. The Police are very interested in untaxed cars!Am I right in understanding that cars that are not taxed get crushed.Just a thought

I could be wrong on this, but here's hoping.......
No, you are right...need to check with an insurance company tho to confirm the name of the organisation/fund

The Motor Insurance Bureau is funded by the insurance industry to pay claims against uninsured drivers. They are a little slow and charge a few hundred pounds excess (I suggest that you pursuade your neighbour to stump this up ) but they are a godsend when thing s look a bit iffy. If your insurance company don't involve them, ask them why not....

ps Sorry Imelda
Ouch. You have my sympathy.
However, there is one course of action not yet mentioned (I think). Sue him for the cost. Best see a lawyer/CAB first though. And of course you have the ace card that if he doesn't play ball and cough up, the police just 'might' find out he is driving without insurance, which can be up to 11 points and a BIG fine I think.
The minor problem is that he is your neighbour, so probably best in the long run to settle it amicably...

Commiserations - this is a desperately sad tale. I really hope it works out OK and speedily for you and your griff.
Did you give your neighbour a copy of the written quotation for repair of the damage? Even if it looks like your neighbour is going through the motions I would think about having a solicitor draft an appropriate letter and send this with the quotation. Perhaps get it sent with recorded delivery so there can be no dispute later.
