FWIW, my theory is that water runs down the inner wings and drips on to these rails (I was once under the car when it was raining
) My solution was to run a thin strip of adhesive rubber along the inner wings to channel the water to drain away at the front of the car. I havent had any probs in 2 years ~ but I also had ceramic exhausts & POR15 around the same time ~ I do think it has kept a lot of standing water from dropping on to the chassis rail tho.

I was going to coat the chassis rail with some of that heat reflective material (same as the stuff on the inner wings), but the rubber channel sounds a good idea as well.
Andy, im doing this job as we speak,im hoping to use the heat reflective blanket wrapped around tubes with popper studs so i can remove/inspect the top rails every now & then,im sure its the manifolds/precats that burn off the powder coat leaving them open to corrosion in that area, corrosion wont be a problem (some were concerned about this trapping moisture)i dont use car in the winter quarter, and they will be checked occasionaly.

Thats what i was going to do...also where the engine mounts have sagged the manifolds have been sitting on the chassis.
I dont think you will have to worry too much about dampness getting in...after a few minutes of running the manifoilds will be up to temp and that will dry them out...!!!
Just trying to obtain some cheap oxy aceteylene gear...and a tig set!!!
Oh - and some tubing...!
Good news is the enemy has told me i am not allowed to sell the car when i finish...she said if i want a cerb i can save up and buy one later...!
Top lady,i have a feeling Andy you will be reluctant to sell anyway, and yes andy when i got my car there was signs of the manifold rubbing on the chassis due to sagging mounts, thats not the reason for the corrosion though i just kept getting a clonk when hitting bumps, there is a little bit of a knack when fitting new one,s you have to make sure the motor sits in the cradle correctly before nipping up the nuts,i wonder if anyone as just slapped a pair in, and found the manifold still hitting the chassis, with lots of clearence on the other side,(wrong alignment)
I think my mounts have sagged by about 1/2" each side!!!
Can replace easily enough when i have the engine out.
Just struggling with the drive shafts...i thought you just undid the large allen bolts and out they came...need to get my copy of the bible back and see what that says...!
If i do keep my chime there is no way i am going to use it every day. There is just too much involved in repairing a shot chassis...
Comming up with a few good things to prevent this happening in the future though...and have come up with a lot of improvements to make as well.

cheers simon...i am off home in 10 minutes so i shall give it a go then. I have got all the bolts undone so all i need to do is knock them out and i can start to get the back end fully stripped down.
If i can get out both drive shafts, the diff and the remaining nearside wheel, shock and wishbones tonight i shall be a happy chap...

Now the chassis is washed, it looks worse at the front end! Strange that the offside is worse than the nearside, you'd expect the oposite due to the cr*p and puddles by the kerb on our roads. Enjoyed Saturday, but thought my time of skinned knuckles and manifold bolts were behind me, as for puttingit back next weekend......, i'm sure i've something else on

Salt thrown up by cars coming in the opposite direction maybe?
Andy, cracking job here, whilst I'm shuddering at your images, nothing seems to phase you... good luck with the next phase.

to be honest i dont think my chassis is as bad as some of the pictures i have seen...i am just going to replace evey bad bit of rust with new steel and make sure it is all welded in properly before it goes to the blasters.

there is a bit if work to do on the front...but it will be one hell of a car when finished (hopefully)...!
it has crossed my mind to sell all the bits off on ebay as it needs so much work but the more i think about it the more i just cant do it.
And if you are busy this weekend i am more than happy to put it off till the weekend after, your knuckles should have recovered by then...

Possibly...it was from that side of the chassis....but 110 volts???
i have got boat loads of pictures so i shall have to go through them and see if it crops up...

does anyone know what this is...i found it on the floor of the garage and can only assume it cam off the chim as the floor was clear...?
bit puzzled as it has 110v stamped on it???
It must have been something in the car but not connected to it...?

It's a capacitor - most likely off the fuel pump. It limits the electrical interference when the pump is running.
cheers paul...and grifter!
It looks like a wire has snapped off from the top.
I will have to look at it later and see how it attached....
Paul,
Three wires you say....i hope you noted which way round they went for when the body goes back on???
Oh - and the throttle cable is £50
