+1 ... Direct replacement for the existing lens and bowls might be quite interesting.

They were recommended by someone on here, can't find the thread now. 6000k colour. I bought LED sidelights in the same rating to match. They are high and low beam.
eBay item number: 200721068287
Good value at £30.
Ordered, are they easy to fiteBay item number: 200721068287

Below are the LED sidelights I ordered which match the colour perfectly. These were the fitment for the mk1 golf bulb holders with the mk3 lights however I think the standard early headlights are a different fitment.

Very easy, just plug and play takes 5 minutes. Need to find somewhere to mount the ballast but again not difficult.

I have no doubt you can get the equivalent light output with enough LED elements, but Im sticking to my guns and saying there is no single LED "bulb" that you can retro fit that will give you enough light to drive.
Are you 100% sure about that Blitz Edited by blitzracing on Saturday 4th October 18:43
By the way its not an LED Bulb, its an LED emitter and progress in the LED world is moving at break neck speed right now.
LED performance has moved on massively, even in the last 12 months
I predict in a year or so quite a few of us will have LED headlights, the technology is already here but the challenge will be if emitters can be made to work with our old school reflector bowls without creating dazzle.
If you have projector lights like Tuscans no problem, but getting a good light pattern with sharp cut offs and aim on a reflector bowl & glass lens setup like ours will be tricky.
There are single LED emitters out there right now that plug straight into your H4 harness and give 3200 lumens. That's HID levels of light and drawing LED low amps while avoiding all the HID downsides IE warm up time, dip fill beam transition time, & loss of flash function.
You need integrated fans with these new high powered LED conversion kits to keep the emitter cool, but by all accounts the light they give out is superb, finally we have a genuine LED rival for HID.

Blimey- Id missed those- just wait for the price to drop then......
The price drop is already here.Firstly I checked with that US vendor, and he will happily send you a set to the UK for £200
But if you know where to look you can buy the exact same thing direct from China (where they're made) for £60 delivered to Blighty.
The real question is how well they'll work with our reflector bowl & lens setup
If they don't dazzle oncoming drivers and provide a good beam pattern then I can see these being a great upgrade, I've avoided going the HID mod because they do come with some disadvantages.
But LEDs that give as much light as HID, now we're talking
I'm planning to test the £60 set very soon, if they're any good I'll let you all know here, if they blind oncoming drivers and give a ragged beam pattern I'll sell them to my mate with a Tuscan.

(Especially added into a set of Lupo lights - fit and forget forever...! )
