Come on, let me in!
It's not as if I have an LS, Ford or somesuch engine.
I still have the original Morris Marina ashtrays and the TVR gear knob.
All I'm doing is trying all the bits that you "very standard" guys may need in the future.
Posted as I'm really bored waiting while the daily has an MOT!

I'll have any of your old standard bits, as you won't be needing them any more.
Should just about manage to assemble a full car from that lot.
UMCC sounds just up my street so please can I become a member. My Chimaera 450 is unmodified and the engine has no bits of blue, red or any of the other garish colours that some people appear to favour. There will be no blowing bits, dually plenum jobs or any other such tat added to my car. Photographs are below.
In addition I did help you out with photographs of the under bonnet labels!

Oops, counting problems!
Unfortunately, even though I bought it when it was three years old, it came with a CD player!
Mine was fine at starting until about a year ago, as you say down to age. Also mine has never leaked.
Never assume the CD player wasn't factory fitted.Unfortunately, even though I bought it when it was three years old, it came with a CD player!

Simply, TVR did what you asked (for the most part), when ordering new, and a lot of dealers would fit some requested 'options' prior to final delivery to the customer. The customer was often none the wiser.
Good to see another that like to keep it 'much as it was'

I have to admit to a little jealousy at the very clean original engine bay, when I was looking at those photos. In addition I did help you out with photographs of the under bonnet labels!
And the rest of the car looks to be as exceptional.
Welcome to the 'club' of course, and in case you didn't see; I got the stickers thanks to being able to identify the precise ones from your photos

To be honest, if my car had the 320bhp quoted by the factory, and, it had been standard when I bought it (it wasn't, it was sub-standard, and needed an engine rebuild), and didn't need the aforementioned rebuild then in all probablity I would never have even thought about modifying it. So I bought a mint 500 from a dealer which turned out to have been not only modified but down on power (and that's compared to standard 500 figures not the factory quoted one's, based on Growl figures).
With a porous block, I was faced with the choice of having the original block sleeved (top hat linered...so no longer original) or a new block, cross bolted and with a much stronger crank.... and therefore no longer original. So, in for a penny etc, I went for the stronger lump, and decided to have a unit built that elimnated all the boggo problems like the lucas system etc, i.e. got rid of the dizzy and the 14CUX AFM. Does this make me a bad person? Just because my Chimaera isn't original (mainly due to the original engine being knackered), does this (also) make me a bad person??? Anyway, one thing leading to another the mods piled on, leading to something nowhere near an original power unit.
Another event however played a large part in my decision to modify to the extent that I have, and this was an encounter with a BMW diesel. Linky here: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
Wrong as it may be, I couldn't deal with the idea of owning a TVR, an icon of high performace British sports cars, that was slower than a BMW diesel. So there you have it. Right or wrong, that's how it is
Respect to all,

Okay, that's a bit harsh maybe.
You may continue on your road to damnation, and I wish you the best of luck with it, truly
Or you may join the true faith, and spend that huge wad you are planning on lavishing on the SC, on restoration to her former glory.
Believe me, the idea of going out again, in a TVR that can truly hold it's own with all but the most extreme of super cars, appeals to me more than you would know.
But maybe it's better to remember the Glory Days, and let the memory of greatness be enough.
Allow a graceful and relaxing retirement to the old girl.
In her day she was truly great.
She fought her wars, and she won.
How much more can I ask of her?
As you say; Respect to all.

Yes very true. I will have to check the original invoice.Simply, TVR did what you asked (for the most part), when ordering new, and a lot of dealers would fit some requested 'options' prior to final delivery to the customer. The customer was often none the wiser.

I have always liked to keep my cars in original (as possible) condition. I thought I was the only one.
On the other hand from and engineering point of view, its interesting to see what can be done.

To let people like you, and so many others (even me), know that they are not alone.
I have to admit to wondering how alone I was at first.
Hopefully we can provide a recognised list of owners that can tell you how it can work in standard form.
Where to get original parts, or parts that behave as original.
The list of things that do not need improvement, simply proper maintenance, is far longer than the list of things that 'require' upgrading/improvement.

In your day they would have looked more like this; Proper Ignition SystemsETA
Cap and rotor
In situ
Schematic
I assume it's all coming back to you now

Well I know where to get a few original parts or what car they are off. So can always add these to a list.
I thought I was alone too in wanting to keep mine original. Its good to see I am not the odd one out!

Am I allowed to switch the old blade fuse for a new midi one and still stay a member? I seem to have lost all my non-ignition electrics, so suspect the poor quality blade fuse.....
It it likely to ...dramatically improve performance, or visibly alter the appearance of the vehicle...?I think you are safe with that one
However, ChimpofDarkness has just 'rebuilt' his fuse box.
That in itself is quite remarkable, as it had presented the perfect opportunity to bin the lot and "do it right". But he will now be quite expert on the subject I should imagine.
I have to admit, if that happened to mine, I would just run to a TVR mechanic / electrician.
There is going to be one area of modification needed for members in the UMCC club
You will need easy access to your smoking jacket ,pipe and slippers
Maybe some more storage within the cabin area !
Mind you there are some advantages of keeping your car standard

That was my plan, but his is to pull much of the interior apart. He may well be right, certainly thorough, but if the footwell fuse is blown I might be tempted to change it first.....I think you are safe with that one
