Mine has a few extra of those torque things but it still seems to do lots of revs at 80!

If you have a BTR you can change the crown wheel and pinion to a 3.08 , you may need to have around 270hp or it may not pick up so quick .

I`m still waiting for discopatoes to make be a set of brackets so I can get rid of the GKN and fit the BTR 3.08

Is the BTR308 a rare TVR part or a more generic one please?

The 3.08 may be a bridge to far with your little 4l .. Ask Derek he imported one from Australia.

That may be the case with my rather fine blue car in the classifieds but I am hoping that my 5.3 V8 Developments Chianti coloured Chimaera should be able to handle it biggrin. woohoo

I don`t think the 5.3 will rev enough to cope with the 3.08 laugh

Graham, from memory my 4.6 runs the same gearing.
I'll check it next week against a st nav and also the new car.

I suppose if that's correct, that's why my 4.6 has such good acceleration from 80 in 5th.

Thanks Peter. It seems like the T5 box has these sort of ratios, so your new car could be the same. You asked me how fast it was compared with the 400 and I said it seemed as fast in 1st or 5th! This helps explain the acceleration in 5th!

Going back to the fuel economy point, letting the engine run freely is the best for fuel economy. So around town third is better than fourth, and at 50-60 fourth may get better results than fifth. Constant speed gives best fuel economy - ask anyone with cruise control and a dashboard readout. Mine goes up 10% or more if I use cruise in my daily driver.
