Fitfth gear broken in T5 gearbox

Some versions of the mainshaft 5th gear have an indent cut in the rear face next to the circlip, this captures the circlip preventing it from opening
Sadly not all do, and the one that I had which did feature that design, failed because of the other weak point that is solved by using the billet bearing retainer that Paul Cangialosi supplies
I don't think there's a problem mixing different aged gears, my current gearbox is a true Frankenstein unit and is doing fine so far
I have that very kit of parts from Paul Cangialosi along with the S10 tail housing also from Paul CSadly not all do, and the one that I had which did feature that design, failed because of the other weak point that is solved by using the billet bearing retainer that Paul Cangialosi supplies

Its helical cut so would imagine its always trying to climb off the mainshaft guess the circlip lost not a worry with straight cut gears except the racket
A friend of mine has straight cut 5th in his track Tamora, the noise it makes would be totally unacceptable in a road carHowever, the heavy duty Quaife gear set, although noticeable at lower speeds in lower gears, is not particularly intrusive when cruising in 5th
Here’s a pic of the standard 5th gear cog and the Quaife 5th gear cog

I am looking for the part number for the circlip on 5th gear that fits the 27 spline ...anyone on this thread help. My understanding is fitting a 28 spline circlip which is supplied for the generic kits might lead it to pop off. A@
That's interesting, not heard that before, but definitely fit the best strongest circlip you can, and consider them single use onlyPaul, look at my other thread (I posted it earlier it has a link that sort of explains). https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... A@
