Fuel gauge issues
Discussion
I think I'm suffering a very similar issue, fuel gauge reading full most the rtime only dropping to 3/4 full when empty. I've tried a 2nd sender and get the same result.
Could someone sanity check my test before I order a new gauge with a 4-6 week lead time. I took the gauge out of the car and wired it as per the image. With the float moving through it's full range of travel it still reads full dropping to 3/4 when the float is at empty.

That's correct.
But...
Are you sure it isn't the sender? Have you a multimeter? If so, set it to ohms and connect across the sender (just the sender, not connected as per your diagram) and it should read 200-240 'empty' and 10-0 'full' and obviously in between as you move the float up and down. If it's all good, then it's the gauge.
Eta if you take the gauge apart, a good auto electrician should be able to fix it cheaply.

I have a meter but little knowledge. Yes it looks to read from 4.9 full to 200ish empty. I've also tried a 2nd sender which reads the same on the gauge.Tyre Smoke said:

Hmm, looks pretty permanently crimped. How did you open yours without leaving it in a mess? Blade/screwdriver around the back lip?Yes, but very gently. You will be able to prise it far enough without damage. But make sure you don't have caffeine jitters or shakes from last night's session!! Take your time.
Needle just pulls off, face is held in with two plastic lugs tweezers are a good idea.
I did both fuel gauge and my speedo when it stuck at 100k.
If you do it right, it's not noticeable once they're back in against the fascia.
