Just changed my ATF on gearbox...

I thought the car was fairly level, but it has sucked the whole 2 litres. Shall I drain a small amount of or is it okay? The fluid that came out looked fairly clean, but I ditched that before measuring how much came out.

One says over 2l and the other 1.4l

Which is correct? Is 2l over filling or is 1.4 not enough?

The official oil capacity of a T5 is 2.55 litres, but the reality is you'll never achieve a complete drain with the box still in the car.

So in my experience 2.3 Litres should be sufficient, but at the end of the day just fill to the level plug.

I always jack & support on the o/s and fill to the level plug.

So if anything I'm very slightly over filling, but honestly that's better than under filling it and a fraction more oil will do absolutely no harm.

To be honest you'd really struggle to seriously overfill the box anyway as the excess will be running down your sleeve as it spills out of the fill/level plug.


It really is one of those jobs that's hard to get wrong

Mine was changed recently. Bought three quarts of Royal Purple (per the bottle, 1 quart = 946ml), used just over 2.5 bottles.
So that backs up Chimpo's erudite pronouncement
