The wires into the speed sender get old and crispy. They then break just below the surface of the epoxy backfill. You can repair but only if you do it DIY as it will take time to do and for a garage time costs.
If it is a broken wire you should get no multimeter reading across the terminals.
The connector down there can also get quite dirty/corroded.

I know this is a DIY forum, but sometimes it pays just to take your car for a drive to your (semi-)local TVR guru (Colin Apps at TVRSSW springs to mind) and get these issues diagnosed or fixed. We should be supporting guys like them anyway, or we won't have them when we need them, and Colin may well save you money or a bigger bill in the future by simply applying his expertise and knowledge to your problem.
Noticed that some have been set at 5 and 6 thou

If the sensor has been touching it will be damaged

Absolutely nothing wrong with TVRSSW, but you also have RPB Motors at Callington (probably quite a bit closer to you); been working on TVRs for years.
I haven't used them but have spoken to him at shows and seems well-informed; also know others who have used them and reported positively.
Eta: if neither speedo nor odometer are working, points to faulty sender (or fuse) but if one works but not the other, points to faulty speedo. It's not uncommon for the sensor to fail.
