New roof with new screen size, what do you think?
Discussion
Hi all,
I needed a new back screen as the stitching had gone. This was going to cost £300, so decided to get the whole roof done (£550) in dark green to match the colour of the car better. I also got half of the car resprayed / re-touched at the same time (£ lots). I am really pleased with the results. PM me if you want to find our who did it, not sure if we are allowed to post that info, they did a great job though IMO. The screen is taller but narrower, therefore when the roof is down it lowers without folding the corners of the plastic screen, it just loops (doesn't fold). I hope this means it will all last a lot longer. Anyway, hope this is interesting!

Looks nice mate but it looks better if the rear screen is slightly angled ..follows the shape of the roof . I needed a new back screen as the stitching had gone. Not sure which one is which. but I prefer the green one.
Just noticed mine has split at the stitching so going to need it doing at some point although in no rush as it rarely goes out with the roof up.
I'm thinking this time of something I investigated last time I had it done and that is a zip out version.

The green one is the rectangular window that I think I prefer too...Just noticed mine has split at the stitching so going to need it doing at some point although in no rush as it rarely goes out with the roof up.

...and I asked one company about adding a zip out window to their TVR roof and they gave me a very silly cost for it - like double the price!

Not sure if my current insurers do but when I had it done last they covered the cost, all I needed to pay was the extra for the zip bit (must have a fixed price for the job I suppose). The extra was £150, decided against it at the point because there was probably something shiny i wanted.Phil
I was feeling like I was making real progress working through my list of things to "fix" ...
... then I remembered that the last of the items on that list were:
17) Blow-over respray.
18) Recover damaged door trims and fold down roof trim strip.
19) New rear fold down roof section.
20) Recover centre roof section.
21) Renew / reupholser seats.
22) Renew carpets.
I'm kinda scared by what that littl elot will cost me!

I'm just in the process of doing all that now, only had the car a week! ... then I remembered that the last of the items on that list were:

Cheaper for me as I'm doing the work.

The angle looks fine but prefer the wider screen of the other one. That looks like a small window.
Totally agree it does look small but a larger window with the angle would look even better !The angle looks fine but prefer the wider screen of the other one. That looks like a small window.
Thanks for the comments! I agree, the angled look is good, but the main aim was to try and avoid damaging the rear screen in the future. With the straighter lines to the screen a neat central fold is really easy - it kind of knows where it is going. With the older design the screen tended to twist in the corners. Also, with the screen just wider than the supporting bars the straight line matches the lines of the supporting bars, I thought it looked quite neat.
The material is also thinner yet appears tougher (although only time will tell). It folds well. I shall try and make it along to a meet soon so we can get some second opinions, or maybe get a better pic of how it folds.
Although I drive almost 90% of the time with the roof off, it is good to have a secure (looking) roof for when I leave it parked, rather than a big hole in the back screen!
