I have been on the PH forums for a long time and I own a number of TVRs but never a Chimaera. That will all be changing on Wednesday when I pick up a good 4.0 which I intend to do a little restoration work on (not much - mainly carpet, roof and the dash panel) and then drive & track it.
It is a great car - the best I can find locally with a solid chassis and engine. The engine has been mapped by Mark Adams and it made a healthy 235 (I think that was the number - I will have to check the dyno sheet). I was surprised by how smooth the delivery is, no shunting at all through the whole rev range and although it is much lower power than my other TVRs it is no slouch. In fact it surprised me how quick it was.
The only other thing I need to check is the clutch is very heavy. It has recently has a new clutch fitted by racing green I believe so not sure why it is so heavy.
No doubt I will have many more questions and find other little jobs that need doing as you always do once you start living with a car.
I will try and get a pic up here for you once I have charged my phone back up.

Here you go:
Anyone with any ideas on the heavy clutch please let me know. My Griff 500, Cerb 4.5 (before I sold it) and Cerb 4.7 are all much lighter so I know it is too heavy.
Its probably a heavy duty clutch . Engineer 1949 does upgrade ,he fits a second servo to drop the pedal pressure by 50%Anyone with any ideas on the heavy clutch please let me know. My Griff 500, Cerb 4.5 (before I sold it) and Cerb 4.7 are all much lighter so I know it is too heavy.

Thanks for that - it feels like it is sprung if that makes any sense with a strong spring. I will get myself down to a meet and then hopefully I can have a quick feel of somebody elses and they can feel mine - er...that didn't sound right but you know what I mean.TimJM said:

Any time ,you can have a quick feel and believe me it will be stiff QBee said:
I have Engineer 1949's prototype lighter clutch in my car, if you find yourself heading east.....
But I read on here in the last few days that a super-heavy clutch happens when the hydraulics are about to die....
I will check the invoice to see hold long the new clutch RG fitted has been in and if the master/slave have been done also recently. It has a massive box folder of history so will take a while to go through it all.But I read on here in the last few days that a super-heavy clutch happens when the hydraulics are about to die....
welcome! Had issues with my clutch after changing clutch, master and slave. The clutch became heavy and jerky after fitting the new slave from racetech. I think the bore on the slave was a tad to big, making the piston no not straight and touching metal on metal... I saw some clear stripes in the slave after i took it out again.
Then I honed the old slave I had and used the new piston and new seal in that... works great now

Racing green is clever Trevor right? If its had a clutch slave cylinder fitted along with the clutch from them it might explain it, I had a cylinder from them and the pedal feel definitely went stiffer over the original.
Not so much that its too heavy so you may have other issues too.
Nice colour combination with the body and wheels btw.

Hi Tim. I remember you from the Cerb forum. So you've crossed over too huh... Chims are better for drifting aren't they
Welcome
Hi Ged - I remember you too. I am more spanning the divide than crossed over...I still have a Cerb too. I am starting to sound greedy now aren't I. Welcome
I think the Chim will be better for drifting than my Cerb but (and don't take this the wrong way guys) it is because it makes half the power of my Cerb (even without the NOS on) and is much more controllable. What I liked about the test drive is that I could use all the power nearly all the time and as I would like to go on some track days a Chim is perfect. A to B over bumpy roads there wouldn't be much in it between a 4.0 Chim and my 4.7AJP NOS breathing Cerbera (so long as there weren't too many straight bits).

Thanks guys - that sound like what I am experiencing. I would like to get it sorted as the engine is smooth as anything and if the clutch was smoother it would make the car perfect to drive. Not so much that its too heavy so you may have other issues too.

You have been with the griff boys too long, it that what they get up too. Good job you left them to preserve your sanity
I haven't left them the Griff is still here...I'm just experimenting!Don't tell flip flop griff your experimenting with the chim owners, he will be thinking about defectings to us also;) after he has realised what he has been missing out on all these years!;) . nice car by the way.
