Clutch slipping
Discussion
Mine only lasted 40,000 miles, when we whipped it out the driven plate was a bit worn but certainly not destroyed by any means (friction material well off from the rivets).
My car is just a 4.0 litre but it seemed to me on inspection that the slippage at 5,000rpm was more down to the diaphragm springs on the cover plate going a bit soft.
Of course once you lose the full clamping force and get a little bit of slip you are on a very rapid slippery slope to highly accelerated drive plate wear.
One thing you'll never know is how the former owners (if any) treated your clutch before the car came into your ownership, if the guy that owned my car before me was a clutch rider then it actually did well to last the 40,000 miles.
I now have a rather weighty Helix clutch that certainly keeps your left leg muscles toned, I know the Helix has come in for some stick but to me it's been a tough unit, saying that 250hp & 260 torques isn't anything like what the big power boys expect an Rv8 clutch to handle.
If you wanted something lighter than my Helix then the AP clutch in my mates 5.0 litre is the way to go and seems to be pretty bulletproof too.

Stock 500 clutch is all you need and good for a confirmed 320+ its what I use and I have a nice light pedal what COG says about the diaphragm going week is typical old age clutch stuff and known 2 Chimaeras to go out this way even though the drive plate was still serviceable ............. anyway I'm out for a blast now the sun is out
