Went to fit my JE alternator bracket and discovered I'm two bolts short, John only included a countersunk alen headed set screw in the box.

Can someone conform the bolt size I need for the missing two, obviously the ones that came out of the original bracket are way too long.

The threads look UNC to me?

Thanks in advance, Dave.

Hi Dave, I have one in the garage to put on soon and it would be good to know in advance how many bolts I should have please?
Hi Graham, you'll need three bolts into the head plus a fourth (nut & bolt set) for the adjuster bracket.

I just got one countersunk set screw in the box from JE rolleyes

All done & tested on a 150 mile round trip to Goodwood including some extended idling in a hot M25 traffic jam, proving even at a safe tension there's zero belt slip on the water pump pulley.

So far I'm happy the JE bracket was right decision, deleting that awful short lived rattle & squeak sprung tentioner was very satisfying.

Neater, quieter, more reliable... Happy with that clap

NB: The belt I used was a PK7 1605

Thanks Dave. What belt number did you use with the power steering please?
I went with a quality Gates brand from AllParts.

I bought a selection of PK7 belts as it was late on Friday evening and I wanted some choice, 1605 fitted easily and still gives plenty of adjustment for any belt stretch which I expect will be minimal anyway knowing this type of belt.

Unused belts returned before AllParts closed at 6.00pm biggrin

NB: The adjuster bracket required some careful machining on the bench grinder wink

Just relieve a bit of material from the bracket (obscured by the alternator adjuster bolt eyelet), see red circled area below:

Dave, is that braided hose the PS high pressure hose to rack?
If I hadn't done my front end chassis paint up I'd have no clue, I'm assuming that's what it is?
Yep, I was lazy and just ordered the kit from Johnny Z who advertises a lot in the PH TVR Parts classifieds.

The kit eliminates the leaks in the "U" pipe under the PS pump and also gives you the braided high pressure line you've spotted.

The kit is a bit overpriced for what it is, but hey everyone needs to make a living and I haven't got a problem with that.

What you're paying for is a quality kit that totally solves the annoying leaks and will fit first time without any messing about.

I fitted mine over two years ago and it's been spot on from day one to today, on reflection while I thought it was expensive at the time it has proved itself to be excellent value for money.

Like so many things in life, it often pays in the long run to spend a few quid more to do the job right in the first place.

Firstly I studied many pictures of the JE adjuster and it became clear looking at mine John had changed the bracket shape at some point.

When I offered mine up the best way to fit it (without significant reshaping) was the way I chose.

Secondly, if you compare both ways of fitting the bracket you'll see at the the last part of the adjustment (the bit that counts), both are vertical.

It therefore makes little or not difference how you fit it, both options work equally well and either way will allow you to fit, remove & tension the belt no problem at all.
