I got my beautiful '96 Chimera during the summer and have been having a great time - what a beauty, and to think I even hesitated just prior to buying!!

Anyway, I took her out of the garage a few days ago just after it had been teaming with the wet stuff. Now this is the first outing on anything other than a dry road. So, being very very wary of the posts I have read regarding back-to-front driving in wet conditions! I made my way somewhat gingerly towards the A1 from Hitchin down here in Herts. In 3rd gear coming off the roundabout onto the uphill sliproad to join the A1(M) I gently press down on the pedal just before I'm straight and to my great surprise the back came out very very quickly and resulted in me going through 270+ degrees before stopping!

The car came with brand new SO/2's on the front and somewhat worn P6000's on the rear. Now, I want to change these rear tyres so that I have more chance of making it to next summer! My question is:

Do I need 225/55/16's or 225/50/16's????????? Presently the P6000's are the 55 size but according to blackcircle tyres the 96 chim has the option - Please help!!

As an afterthought, anyone know the part number of the backlighters for the rear number plate?

Thanks all very much for you're replies.

I've just had a look at the car and I currently have:
Front: 205/55/15 SO/2
Rear: 225/55/16 P6000

It seems from your posts that I should have 225/50/16 on the back not the 55. The thing is I can get hold of two SO/2 in the 55 which will match the front or I can get SO/3 in the 50 for the rear and change the front to SO/3's when they need replacing.

What do you think?

Cheers

James.

Trefor,

What are the implications on the accuracy of the speedo if I swap the P600 55's with the Bstone 50's?

Thanks guys.

Thanks for all your help chaps, I'm going with the SO/2's same size as the current P6000's. I used BlackCircles.com £115 each fully fitted etc. and the garage happens to be about 1 mile away - result
