I don't know whether this picture is 'smoke and mirrors' from Jag or just some more 'creative license' from the motoring journalists. I can't for the life of me think why Jag would do this, so I'm tending to think the latter.
I will say this though after working in the automotive industry for a while now, you realise how much rubbish the magazines put out either by getting the wrong end of the stick or simply to get a story out.
Take it from someone who works on the V6 and V8 diesels in Jag and LR, and then saw magazines crediting it largely to Peugeot/Citreon! Then you have 'experts' on here arguing the point with (quite a few) people who actually worked on it! It's so annoying it's laughable..... sometimes anyway!

Sorry XXXAngelXXX, my last posting was a little terse. I got interupted.
Does any know whether "Autocar" and "AutoWeek" are connected?
Because I'm pretty damn certain those two pictures are the same, just shaded differently.
I hope this is a creation of the art dept. in some magazine somewhere.
Hi wheel jack hows it going,
The pictures that have been published are complete toss the only thing that's right
are the wheels!!!.
Its all slack journalism to jump on the "will Ford sell Jag" bandwagon and to fill a few pages with pictures, These pictures are just made up with bits of current stuff and computer generated brush art.
I am not a great lover of the current Jag line up (all look old) apart from the new
XK (very nice) But... I am working on the new S type which is very modern and very XKish and I like it! Jag MUST get this new car right, and from what I can see I think they have.
Wheel jack if you want a peep send me a mail at work....

I agree with all the above, but worryingly there is another picture of a similar vehicle available on the website for Automobile Mag (USA) - different grille and different wheels.
See www.automobilemag.com/future_cars/2008/0609_2008_jaguar_s_type/
The part that concerns me is the claim in the article:
"Jaguar is dumping retro design for the new S-type in exchange for a contemporary feel inside and out. The four-door sedan will be a reskin of the current car and offer a roomier interior and more cargo space. The styling may be different, but the targets--the BMW 5-series, the Audi A6, and the Mercedes-Benz E-class--will remain the same. The S-type arrives in 2007."
By "reskin of the current car" I take it that means the once-promised sharing of the XK and XJ aluminium floorpan etc will be junked. Bad news. In thge 1970s Morris reskinned the Minor and delivered the Marina...
If that's the case I'll wait until the new model is out and go for one of the last of the current shape cars at an end-of-line discount.
