Sorry if this has been mentioned but the mouse batteries are low and I haven't time to read all through before I lose the lot. Beacham in NZ have been making V8 powered E types for some years and a Chevy small block is the standard transplant the other side of the pond and has been for some 35 years or so. I've seen and driven an XJ6 in phoenix with such a conversion and it was superb with a lovely exhaust waffle. I'll dig out the conversion details and post later. For Beacham cars go here:-

Another place to look for information on a project like this would be www.jag-lovers.org and then look in the "lumps" forum, which I think is where they discuss dropping other lumps into Jaguars. You could also look in the X300 and XK8 forums for info on the engines and gear boxes. Then there is the XK8/R club which is also pointed to a lot from here. Again for information on seperating the Jag AJ26 engine from it's auto box.
