X150 coupe: Talk me out of it

Just got back from 3 hour drive home, 2 of them in the rain, after collecting my XK today.
So far so good, will clean it up and post a piccie or two.
Very comfortable, relaxed but seems to be able to pick up its skirts and go if need be.
The word I found most fitting for the XK and the way it does pretty much ANYTHING is "effortless". You want to drive 300 miles to Le Mans? No problem. You want to show off a little in Arnarge on Mad Friday? But of course. You need to relax and take a steady drive home after all the echos and adrenaline have ebbed away? It is done. It is as at home howling down the Mulsane, as it is arriving at a pedestrian pace outside the hotel lobby. if that wasn't enough, its also one hell of a good looking thing. So far so good, will clean it up and post a piccie or two.

Completely agree. And the hips are what I love. That view in the side mirrors of its haunches.
Only had time for a quick wash today, needs some time being polished and cared for however still not looking too shabby.
It's a full history car with 22k on it, condition in line with it's history, I hope with some time and patience I can make it outstanding.
I am enjoying driving it but have that new car to me worry about it until I have been through it all for myself.
Really like the old school N/A V8, good torque converter box. Lovely car.
My son's special order CL600 uber coupe in the background.
Two last of the line performance GT's (his MUCH faster than mine) that will never be made again.
Hi OP
Yes a final facelift 5 lire car, just what I was looking for.
I agree white was not what I wanted (wouldn't have bought black) but the interior is specced spot on for me, BUT, even after living with the car two things I will say about the white on this car:-
It really accentuates the curves and sharp crease lines on the car due to shade and shine created by them.
It makes the car less aggressive which suits me mentally where I am at.
So whilst generally not liking white cars within 24hrs on this car I have moved from its the right car for me but its white to appreciating the colour on my car

I completely get that, mine is Liquid Silver, and I agree the light colour really makes all the contours easy for the eye to follow. My compromise ended up being the reverse of yours. I got the paint I wanted but had to settle for Black with Aluminium dash (my better half teases me with her Walnut bedecked XF and tells me I bought the Mercedes Spec interior). That said, I console myself that I run much less risk of marking this than my first choice Caramel or second choice Powder Blue.
Mine is liquid silver, not my first choice by a mile but apparently Ian Callum's prefered colour for the car. I can see why, as you both say it allows you to see the subtle surfacing and detail in the car in the way a bolder or darker colour might not.
I got ivory with black dash/door tops and old man walnut for the interior, very pleased indeed with that.
You do have to be realistic about what the used car factory can supply I find

My last one was Liquid Silver. Having been photographing cars for years I've come to realise that silver is the most effective colour for accentuating shapes, lines and other details in bodywork. Most light colours do but a metallic paint does it best.
This was mine once I'd done the black grilles, but before the window trims were wrapped and the wheels refurbished in black:

So second day of ownership and....
I live in Hertfordshire and day tripped to Rutland with the wife. Had a midday appointment and then lunched and spent some relaxing time at Rutland Water.
Took the XK, fantastic, quiet and relaxed. Wife fell asleep in the car on the way home, it was the first time she had been in the car. Within the first 5 miles on the A1 she said its very smooth isn't it. She doesn't like cars, hated my two Caterhams, we gave up on her going out in my Roadsport A caged, no doors, aeroscreened and no roof Caterham. She put up with my two GT6s, we dated in the first one. However she already likes the XK. Good news.
I have parked next to two 911s already, at the point in my life I am at now the XK is better for me. Don't think ooh I fancy that 911 anymore.
Very pleased so far.

Never mind thought you meant an xk150 which might be one of the most beautiful cars ever.
For me, the X150 trumps every other GT coupe in terms of styling and interior.Edited by Jefuk on Sunday 17th September 00:17
Big Merc coupes are intriguing, though. Esp ones with V12s.
I'd still go for the XK at the end of the day because it looks so amazing.

Two of my favourite cars right there.
I like the C216, it's not as pretty as the C215 but it's a much better car. Must be two of my favourite engines though, very similar paper figures but couldn't be more different in character. That said I've never run a car that's fought me every step of the way quite as much as a Mercedes with the M275 V12 TT, and I have a friend who has run two with a similar experience. Miserable ownership experience, and the three inches of invoices it came with told a story of near constant headaches from the day it left the dealer ABC is amazing though. Standing on the (huge, incredibly effective) brakes at 140 and having no dive, no pitch when you boot it, and no lean on big sweeping bends is quite something.
I think it's been long enough to forget some of the trauma and think about getting another one.
FWIW the XK and C216 are very very different cars, the C216 is a louche S Class and the XKR feels like an MX5 that's been on the steroids and spending all it's time in the gym.

Jaguar's naming system is as much of a mess as Aston Martin's.In 2020 I had an X150 XK and was trying to get to a marina on the Broads for a boating holiday. However there'd been a lot of rain and the track to the marina was flooded more than I fancied trying to drive through. So I dumped it in another marina's car park and asked if I could leave it there instead. He said no, so I pointed at the flooded road and asked him if he had a better plan. He rang the other marina. 'What's the car?' asked the other marina. 'Jaguar XK' I said. It did the trick; permission was instantly granted and marina 2 ferried me and my luggage by boat to marina 1!
