RE: Jag XK wins Gong
Discussion
Obviously going to be a poor year for cars if that has won an award already.
I think Jaguar are struggling with this one already.
As an XKR owner I was telephoned at 6pm on SATURDAY evening by a very nice lady from Jaguar enquiring if I would be interested in driving the new XK.
Hardly selling itself, is it?
I politely declined the offer.

So Jaguar being pro-active and talking to their existing customers isn't a positive move then IYO. I actually think it is excellent that Jaguar are asking existing customers about their new car and giving them a chance to drive it FOC ! Interested to know why you declined? As Triple 7 is the only person on this forum that I know of who has actually driven one I cannot understand why are some people so negative - do you want Jaguar to fail ? At least Triple 7 seems to think its a great car !

Buying a car, for me at least, is a highly subjective process. I think I bought the XK with the heart rather than the head. Having said that I enjoy every single mile I drive in it, I even enjoy washing the damned thing and have done so this morning at 5 Celsius!
The new one just doesn't push my buttons.
I do not wish Jaguar to fail having been an enthusiast for the marque for 40 years or more.
I am sure the new XK will be dynamically superb but to me has no wow factor and I would never trade mine in for one. Good luck to those who do, however.
My first post.
I have always been a fan of Porsche and was so exited before collecting my 996 from the factory in Zuffenhausen; I woke up singing 'I've got a Golden Ticket' from Charlie and the Chocolate factory. That said, I am very much a patriot and I was never completely happy spending my money abroad.
Now things have changed, at last, I cannot wait to take delivery of my new XK. I have had a private tour of the factory, the staff were great, the car looks and sounds fantastic. It may not be the revolutionary new E-type but, in my opinion it certainly signifies a wind change for Jaguar. Most of you will appreciate the marketing forces behind some of the compromises we can see in the car, lets hope its leads Jaguar to where we want it to be. I remain confident that, like me there are many people out there who are a little tired of buying cars that can lack a little soul, a little touch of that something unique, perhaps a hint of racing green (although mine will be slate); vive' le Britain.

Totally agree - I had a 645Ci - so boring - and not at all reliable - and lost a bundle - and definately not a looker !
Re packaging the past has obviously not worked ( new XJ !) - they need to modernise. A job well done IMO but the buying public will decide.
From MSN - a road test, pics and video

Sounds like an improvement over the old model but it does look Japanese though

As an ardent, life-long Jag nut my view is that they made a massive mistake by not producing the F-Type. A babe magnet if ever I saw one, (and I don't even need one! Well my wife tells me I have no need for one anyway!).
I agree entirely. The new XK looks like a Ford Probe and to me is just an Americanised cruiser that has been designed to appeal to women drivers as well as men. That's great for selling more cars but it puts the final nail in the coffin for Jag's sporting heritage (unless they seriously tart up the XKR and enter it in the LMES).
The F-Type was totally stunning, when I saw it at the motorshow, I ran to the stand and offered the salesman all the cash I had in my wallet (which was nowhere near enough) as a deposit. I wrote to them and begged them to make it. Who would do the same for the new XK?
And why do we need an XKR-R? What's the XKR going to be, just a regular coupe with some more toys?
